The sun is setting, making the colors all orangey. I sigh, this place is beautiful and completely off the radar. I’ll have to remember to thank Dominick for having such a paranoid family.

Someone takes my hand, not someone, I’d know him anywhere.

“Beautiful,” he breathes.

“I think so too,” I say.

“I wasn’t talking about the sunset,” he whispers in my ear, “You’re beautiful.”

He squeezes my hand and my heart pounds against my ribs. Does he realize what his simple touch does to me? Does his pulse jump in his veins too?

His hands grab my shoulders and he pulls me around to face him, “Anneliese, what are you thinking about?” he asks.

I shake my head.

His hand cups under my chin and pulls my face up to meet his, “Please talk to me,” he pleads.

“It’s just that…” I bite my lip. Just that I love him.

“Just that?” his eyes gaze into mine.

I take a deep breath, “It’s perfect here,” I whisper, “And there’s no one I’d rather share it with. I love having you here, and not just to talk to,” my fingers glide across his arm, dragging the fire along with it, “It’s ok, if you don’t feel that way, I understand…” my voice trails off.

“Oh, Anneliese,” he sighs and his lips crush to mine.

The flames in his lips burn hotter than the desert air that swirls around us. My hands reach for him instinctively, arms wrapping around his neck, fingers knotting into his hair.

His hands drop to my waist, “It was a miracle, more than a miracle when I found you,” he said against my lips, “And right now, if I was given a choice having the world back or having you, I wouldn’t be able to give you up.”

“That’s very wrong.”

“Very wrong, but very true.”

“Julian,” I breathe, my voice filled with desire as I try to reach for his lips again.

“I love you, Anneliese, forever and always,” he said before kissing me once more.

“But you’ll never know how much time we’ll have,” I say quietly.

“We won’t lose each other,” he promises, “Miracles don’t work that way.”
