James has just finished his last slice of pie.
"Thanks, Mama Knight!"
He and Carlos raced to the couch for some video games. Pretty soon they started yelling accusing eachother of cheating.
"Well, I'm going to the pool to meet Jo. She said she had a surprise for me," Kendall said, heading for the door.
"And I have some homework to finish." Logan walked over to the small table near the door.
"Aww, I missed pie?!" Katie had just walked through the door with a suitcase in one hand and a contract in the other.
"Yep. Sorry, Katie," Mrs. Knight said sorrily. "What is all that stuff anyway?"
"Oh, uh, I heard that Jordan Sparks was here again."
"That explains that."
"I'm going to bed," Katie headed for the hallway.
"Why? It's only three o' clock," Mrs. Knight checked her watch.
"I'm upset over missing pie time," Katie said, moping.
"Aw. How about I take you out for some pie instead?"
"Okay!" Katie jumped for joy. "Let me just change out of this boring suit."
Kendall had walked out of the lobby and out by the pool. At a small table sat Jo Taylor, his first true love.
"Hi, Jo." Kendall sat down across from her.
"Hey, Kendall." Jo looked very upset.
"What's wrong? And what's this surprise you had for me."
"Well, actually, I just need to tell you something."
"Oh, well, shoot." Kendall gave a slight smile.
"Uhm, I got another acting part. And it's in New York City."
"Oh, awesome! What's the show?"
"Actually it's a movie. And I'm going to be gone for a while."
"Oh. Uhm.."
"And..."
Kendall stared mopily.
"...I think we should break up."
"What?! Wait, why? There are things called long distance relationships, Jo!"
"Kendall, I'm leaving for 3 years and I don't think we can handle that."
"We can at least try."
"No. We can't. I'm sorry, Kendall. I mean, I love you but this has to end. I'm sorry. It's over."
"Well, that's kind of funny because I don't love you."
There was a long silence. Finally, Kendall got up and left.
Kendall walked into the front door at his 2J apartment with a few tears running down his face.
"Well me and Katie are off to get more pie." Mrs. Knight announced. "See you around--Kendall. Oh my goodness, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, Mom," Kendall said, heading toward the couch.
"No, something is wrong. What is it?"
"I just don't really want to talk about it, Mom. Do you mind?"
"Okay. Well, I'll be at Pie City if you need me. Let's go, Katie!"
Mrs. Knight and Katie left.
"OH! I TOTALLY SMOKED YOU, CARLOS!" James yelled.
"You cheated!" Carlos yelled.
"No, I didn't! You're just mad cause I beat you by one point!"
"Well I'm not playing with you anymore."
"Whatever," James turned his head and saw tha Kendall was crying. "Whoa, buddy, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, alright?!" Kendall got up and and walked to the kitchen counter and stood there, his back facing his friends.
"Dude, what's going on?" Logan asked from his workstation. "No one cries for nothing."
"Yeah, just tell us," Carlos added.
"Fine!" Kendall yelled. "Jo just broke up with me, alright? Is that what you want to hear?!" Kendall was crying tirelessly.
James got up and went to the counter to comfort Kendall. "I'm so sorry."
Carlos joined in. "Why did she dump, uh, I mean, break up with you?"
"She got this dumb part for a stupid movie in stupid New York City," Kendall said wiping a few tears from his eyes.
"So?" Carlos asked.
"She's going to be there for three years."
"What about having a long distance relationship?" James suggested.
"That's what I said, but she doesn't think we can handle it."
Logan got up from the table and joined the three boys. He patted Kendall's back.
"It's going to be okay, dude. You'll get over her."
"But..I loved her."
"Well, you'll find someone else," James said. "There are plenty fish in the sea."
"I told her that I don't love her."
"WHAT?!" James, Carlos, and Logan said at once.
"I was mad. Give me a break." Kendall turned around and went to the couch again. "But you know the thing is is that when she was breaking up with me, it was like she didn't even love me. I mean, she said she did, but just by the way she talked and what she said, it was like she didn't."
"I'm sure that's not true," James said.
"Yeah, I guess. But thanks, guys. I think I'm going to be okay."
"Is there anything we can do for you?" Carlos asked.
"No, thanks."
Suddenly, the door rang.
