Hai. I know I haven't been that active lately, but I swear I'm back. I must discuss a pressing question with my lovely Biggerstaffs.
The Hunger Games movie.
I just don't know. I'm obviously ridiculously excited for it but I can't tell if it'll ruin an incredible book series or be amazing.
On one hand, Jennifer Lawrence is a fantastic actress. She was nominated for an Academy Award and she's really young. She's played the tough, hardened girl before in Winter's Bone and Suzanne Collins herself said that she was perfect in the audition as she said in a letter to her fans about finding Katniss.
"In her remarkable audition piece, I watched Jennifer embody every essential quality necessary to play Katniss. I saw a girl who has the potential rage to send an arrow into the Gamemakers and the protectiveness to make Rue her ally. Who has conquered both Peeta and Gale’s hearts even though she’s done her best to wall herself off emotionally from anything that would lead to romance. Most of all, I believed that this was a girl who could hold out that handful of berries and incite the beaten down districts of Panem to rebel. I think that was the essential question for me. Could she believably inspire a rebellion? Did she project the strength, defiance and intellect you would need to follow her into certain war? For me, she did. Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never thought we’d find somebody this amazing for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it."
She doesn't really look like Katniss was described but that's not all too important. I don't know about you, but I stopped caring about that a while ago.
Tell the truth, in terms of actors, the person who plays Katniss is really my only concern because it's such a huge role and the whole thing is really on her shoulders. If they got Katniss wrong, they've got the Hunger Games wrong (unless they choose to take the focus OFF of Katniss and onto the ethical issues in the stories and more on the themes of the books, not the actual store. Which I would love. But whatever).
I'm a lot more worried about what they'll do to the actual movie-making-process nonsense. I always thought from the very beginning that they could either make it positively amazing with all the technology or make it a flop like Tron. In my eyes (I'm saying a lot of my own opinions, sorry, not meaning to sound so weird), the technology incorporated should be really subtle in the Districts. Like at first you don't even realize that it's even in the future. But then when you get to the Capitol, it's like WHOA. HAI.
Do you think they'll get it right? The Training Center, interview dresses, fire-suits, muttations...But above all, do you think they'll manage to make the arena more than just a spot of woods where teenagers kill each other? Because the arena itself is a killing machine.
I really just don't know. I have faith in most of the PEOPLE working on the movie, but their budget really isn't very big and I just really don't know.
So give me your opinions!
