I’m I the only one who DOESN’T believe Stefan was in the old witch house basement because he had some intention to kill/turn Bonnie?
I mean I get we didn’t exactly see a visible trail of breadcrumbs between the Salvatore bro car scene to the point Stefan materialized in front of Bonnie to let us know exactly what went down; and I know “It’s STEFAN!” won’t suffice as explanation for my feeling differently. That said…I personally caught some pretty clear indication that his plan did NOT comprise of killing/turning Bonnie.
I valued the fact that Stefan (when they were in the boarding house basement) thought it was important to try and contact Bonnie to see if she could find a way to keep Esther from channeling her. That was first proof (atleast for me anyway) that he certainly was NOT contemplating hurting Bonnie. Stefan had planned to speak to Bonnie of “another way” and I saw him showing up in front of Bonnie later at the old witch house basement as a last chance shot at seeing if there WAS that possible other way.
I’m gonna take it one step further and say Damon actually held out until Bonnie had given Stefan an answer before sealing Abby’s fate which I believe the bros planned beforehand (vamps have super hearing yo). Why do I think that? Well cos of the fact that we heard a pretty loud CREAK behind Abby (indicating Damon was very much IN THE HOUSE already) before we saw Stefan appearing in front of Bonnie. What would’ve been a “GREAT BETRAYAL” and more than disrespectful to Bonnie was if they hadn’t attempted to incapacitate 5 Originals so that nobody had to die OR if they had stealthily vamp-sped into that witch-house, snapped Abby’s neck and hauled ass outta there before Bonnie even got her foot onto the bottom step to get back upstairs. They had the ability to do that but DIDN’T. If they didn’t give a damn about her getting hurt, why even be forthcoming with her about it?
I saw Stefan being in that basement as a good thing because a) He was first trying to guarantee whether or not there was another way b) He was being honest with her about what has been happening instead of catching her offguard c) I believe his presence there was also to keep Bonnie from going upstairs to interfere with Damon turning Abby. Like I said in my other article…Bonnie would have chosen to be turned in Abby’s place and as I also said…that wasn’t an option the Salvatores would risk allowing just as they wouldn’t give Elena that choice.
What happened to Abby was terrible but at the same time Stefan and Damon did try their best and waited till the very last moment to be sure there was NO OTHER WAY but to pick the least of three evils. They TRIED and I can’t hate either of them given what was working against them…it was inevitable. Bonnie will understand them but rightfully needs time to heal.
