definately i love them im actually reading Death Messege By Mark Billingham at the moment and i just finished Blaze By Stephan King it was really good with a unexpecting ending well i didnt expect it anyway
In general, they're pretty enjoyable. What's interesting to me is how they're different from all other genre fiction (at least in my experience): while there are often long series of mystery novels, I have yet to find a single series where the novels in that given series tell an actual continuing story across several books. Every mystery series I've read contains a bunch of books that, at best, have only the most superficial references to the books that came before (the protagonist's office has changed locations, some years ago he dated a women named Amanda) rather than a continuous narrative with character development. This is fine, except that it makes it hard for me to read more than a few books by a given author in a row. I love George MacDonald's mysteries, Robert Parker's Spenser series, Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories (he invented the genre, after all), Glen Cook's Garrett novels and Lindsey Davis' Falco series...but after a few stories, they each start to feel really formulaic and the same. I have to take a break and read somebody else's work before coming back and reading more. I wonder if that's the same for anyone else...
(edit to add the Falco series. I love those books!)
Yes and no, as long as it's not too scary or violent. When I finished Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I was really glad my boyfriend was visiting 'cause I didn't want to sleep alone. *shudder*
