I hesitate to blame this kind of behavior on republicanism and not general bigotry. I still believe that most republicans are decent human beings, who have different values than democrats, but that doesn't make them worse people. You can find bigots and horrendous behavior on both sides of the aisle. I'd rather blame Romney's intolerant actions towards gays on his ignorance rather than his political affiliations.

After all, he didn't even know gay people could biologically have children. If that's not the very definition of ignorance, I don't know what is.

And let's not forget the "Log Cabin Republicans," Libertarians, or people with otherwise moderate republican views. They generally support gay rights and other liberal social policies, but identify as republican for economic and governmental reasons.

I just don't want people to associate Romney's words with all republicans. It's true, many republicans agree with him - but so do some democrats. The problem is ignorance, plain and simple, and we fight ignorance with information, not slurs and insults. Plain and simple.

Another example of ignorance - I believe Romney said in 2004 that there were no studies done on the health and social well-being of children raised by gay and lesbian parents?

Again, the answer is ignorance. In 2002, there was not only a study, but a comprehensive collection of all studies to date on the issue. The citation for the article, if you care to look it up, is Anderson, Norman, et al. "Outcomes for children with lesbian or gay parents. A review of studies from 1978-2000." Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, 2002, 43, 335-351.

And it found that overall they were no better or worse adjusted in those areas than children from straight, two-parent households.

And NOW you can all answer link because I gave it all away. :D
