First of all, I would like to say huge THANK YOU to all of you, who participated in the countdown, and especially to those of you, who left comments.
Here are the results of Best Villain Defeat Countdown as of June 2011.
10. Ratcliffe's defeat
The problem with this defeat was that the viewers are left with the feeling that the villain did not get what he deserved. Sure he's to go to prison and all, but this does not seem to outweigh the fact that he almost started a war and wounded a person.
ppgbelle4 said: "It's not as epic compared to the others."
Gleek4ever said: "It was like "Ok guys story complete! oh wait, we forgot to get rid of the villian. hmm...ok..how 'bout like this...?"
DreamyGal said: "Bfd."
9. Tremaine's defeat
Again, as with Ratcliffe's defeat, people were left with the impression that Lady Tremaine did not get the punishment she deserved for psychologically oppressing Cinderella for years. People thought that while the whole Cinderella becoming a princess thing is a huge shock to Tremaine, this was the only negative think that happened to her.
alexon31 said: "But I must say the expresion in her face here is priceless!!"
ppgbelle4 said: "Her expression is hilarious, but she doesn't really get any punishments from years of abuse, as far as we can tell."
Mongoose09 said: "It's a huge slap in the face for her, but it's definitely least impressive than the others."
8. Jafar's defeat
The third villain that didn't die in the movies didn't make it any further than the 8th spot in this countdown only because he didn't die. True, eternal prison also sounds nasty, but I guess majority of people just wanted him dead, instead of trapped in a magic lamp.
TigerRanma said: "Anyway, for some reason, I didn't care for this one. Maybe because I wanted Jafar to die."
ClassicTV said: "The reason I chose this one was the fact that he got tricked into a lamp, with Aladdin's line after. I expected more out of that scene, like Jafar being stabbed or exploded or something. I was like, "What? That's IT???"
SarahCorine said: "Well he's like one of the only villains that didn't die, in the first one I mean."
7. Gothel's defeat
As for Gothel's defeat, while people thought that her death is epic and original, her defeat is lame and lacks epicness. The fact that she tripped and fell out of a window made a lot of people vote for her.
Tigressfan10689 said: "It was just plain disgusting!"
Takuya said: "I hate the fact that she fell out a window!!! She could have turned to dust in doors but nooo, They had to use that clicé."
SnowSpirit said: "Love this scene. It is definetly one of the most painful Disney Villian Deaths, with turning to dust (I mean, DUST, how much would that KILL) but, the 'defeat part wasn't that impressive'. The fact that Eugene would give up his life for Rapunzel's freedom, totally amazing. It shows how much he loves her and how he isn't just a charming ruddged theif, that he actually has a brain and emotions (for some of you who say that he doesn't :/). But, cutting hair. That is the defeat, NOT IMPRESSIVE. I can cut hair, and I'm not a hero (or a heroine for that matter)."
6. Shan Yu's defeat
A lot of people actually found that defeat to be quite stupid. He basically was defeated and killed by fireworks. This could not be taken seriously by some of the fanpopers, and overall the whole scene was much more centered on celebration and fireworks than the death of a legendary and feared warrior.
Gleek4ever said: "When i was little, i don't remember thinking that he died. It's just a throwaway death to me."
Darkshine said: "It was more funny than impressive to me. (or maybe I have a sick sense of humor)"
cuteasprincie said: "It was STUPID!!!How anyone can Being Defeated just by FIREWORKS!!!!It was Really Really and Really Stupid!!!"
5. Facilier's defeat
Some people thought this is a really lame way for a villain to be defeated. Others thought this is probably one of the most torturous defeats. Probably the reason for Facilier's defeat to be in the middle of the countdown is that we don't really know what happened to him - true he was taken somewhere by the magic and the puppets, but we don't really know where is that somewhere and what was his fate there.
DreamyGal said: "Scary, but doesn't seem quite as painful as the rest of them."
Gabstersm said: "Faciler's is probably the only one that I think about and get chills of how torturous that must be....."
boolander25 said: "Always thought this was a really lame way for a villain to go. It was just so random in the movie."
4. Gaston's defeat
The majority of fanpopers actually thought his death is rather silly. Voters emphasized on the fact that his death was actually his own fault. Also the way he was defeated was overall not very impressive - some of the people even mentioned that they were too preoccupied with Belle and Beast to pay any attention to Gaston's defeat.
JonnaSe said: "Ok, first thing, I hate that he dies. Disney shouldn´t kill off their best character. Second, if they are going to kill him, they have to make it more epic! No one should die in an epic way like Gaston!"
FullMoonFever said: "I was concentrating more on Belle and Beast than Gaston. His death was not that big of a deal in my opinion."
SarahCorine said: "This one was hard to pick, but I guess just the fact that the only reason why he died, was because he happened to put his foot in the wrong place and wasn't able to hold on tight enough, is not as impressive as the others."
3. Ursula's defeat
People either loved or hated that defeat. Some fanpopers thought it was lame. They pointed out that she was defeated by being stabbed by a ship, which they thought is not impressive. Others said the emphasis is not that much on the ship, but what happens afterwards - the screams, the flashing...almost makes your blood freeze.
Mongoose09 said: "I've never liked it.. wow a boat.."
pretty_angel92 said: "This one was really stupid"
CuteDiana said: "AGAIN .. it's not the idea of being stabbed by a SHIP, it's what came AFTERWARDS ... GAH !!! -____- "
2. Maleficent's defeat
Ok, we're down to the top 2, and I think this is one of the very few countdowns that have classic Disney Princess movies left in the top 2!!! Anyway, while people found Maleficent's defeat amazing, some pointed out that she was actually defeated by a small sword, far too small to do anything to a creature with her size. Nevertheless, the sword was blessed with good magic by Flora, so probably more deadly than it looked.
pretty_angel92 said: "It was kinda disapointing"
KataraLover said: "She was killed by a tiny sword not really impressive"
SarahCorine said: "She's this big thing and she died from a little sword. With how big she was, that would be like if someone stabbed you with a toothpick and you died."
1. Queen's defeat
And on number 1 spot is the Queen! I guess they knew how to make epic defeats during Walt's era. Almost nobody left a negative comment about this defeat. In fact a lot of people said that it is the one that should win. Most fanpopers loved the partly superficial, partly caused by chance death. The epicness of the whole scene made the Queen's death the Best Villain Defeat!
Takuya said: "It didn't have anything to do with the heroes it was a pure accident or pure badluck"
BelleAnastasia said: "I love how even the nature was against the Queen!"
BeccyBear said: "Hey all those rocks then fell off and crushed her to death. And the vultures finished her off. If it was R rated we would've seen the awesomeness."
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the article!
