I've decided to take a little break from The Golden Goose and sketch the Disney Princesses. While I'm at it, I might as well make one of these lists. Sorry if my list is boring and conventional...

10. Briar Rose
Oh, I'm such a bad girl. I'm a rebel...in my dreams!
Oh, I'm such a bad girl. I'm a rebel...in my dreams!

Briar Rose is lovely and perfect, but her character isn't given any opportunity to shine.

9. Cinderella
Call me maybe
Call me maybe

Cinderella has a lot of energy, character, and kindness, but she's almost too passive. Still, she shows enough fight in her to be a net positive, which inches her up to the number 9 spot.

8. Snow White
As long as you're living under your roof, you'll live by my rules!
As long as you're living under your roof, you'll live by my rules!

Like the other classic princesses, Snow White embodies outdated ideals which I don't relate to. Of the three, though, she's the most assertive. She makes the dwarfs clean up their act whether they want to or not, even though she was an uninvited guest.

7. Pocahontas
We were both young when I first saw you
We were both young when I first saw you

Pocahontas reminds me of my sister in law, even though she's Korean. Besides the physical and voice similarity, she comes from a huge Korean family and she's the first to marry outside her ethnicity.

But other than that vague personal connection, I don't feel much about Pocahontas one way or another. Her hopes and motivations are vague and she literally doesn't even understand her own dream.

6. Jasmine
So, I AM a prize to be won over?
So, I AM a prize to be won over?

Jasmine is smart and witty, fun loving and assertive. Unlike Belle, she uses her powers of deception for good. What's not to love?

Unfortunately, Jasmine suffers from being crowded out of her own movie. A more complex character perhaps wouldn't fit in to the spaces left behind between the Genie and Aladdin. I think Jasmine is fun and all when she's on screen, but her character is too straightforward for my tastes.

5. Tiana
Tiana knows what she wants (mostly)
Tiana knows what she wants (mostly)

Tiana is easily the most mature Disney Princess. She knows what she wants and she knows how she's going to get it. Her drive, work ethic, and pragmatism are admirable. She's the one who least needs a prince, so it's not so tragic that she ends up with the prince who is the least of them.

So, if Tiana is so perfect why does she rank so much higher than the classic princesses? It's because she embodies modern ideals which I do relate to. I only wish I had her drive and ambition.

4. Mulan
This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me
This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me

Mulan's desires are more defined by what she does not want to be than what she wants to be. More than any other Disney Princess, she is under immense pressure to conform to particular expectations of her family and her society. She has no other choices, so who can blame her for not having specific ambitions?

Mulan transforms from the weakest and most angst ridden of the Disney Princesses into the strongest and most heroic of them. That's rather awesome.

However, Mulan's character is a little too perfect for my tastes. Sure, she starts off clumsy and unfocused--but excessively so. I feel like her early weakness is contrived just to make her more relatable and to amplify her later awesomeness. Still, the contrivance does work. Tiana starts off strong, and her character is a bit less interesting for it.

3. Belle
Belle is just a girl
Belle is just a girl

I find Belle to be the most enigmatic of the Disney princesses. From a modern perspective, she seems so ordinary, but she's stuck in this backwards provincial town with backwards attitudes so she's the odd one. More than any of the other princesses, Belle's desires and dreams are vague. She knows she wants something...but she doesn't know what.

Like so many of us, Belle is adrift and she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life. But she doesn't brood on it like Mulan. Quite the opposite--Belle is carefree and playful.

Why? Because Belle is a product of her upbringing. Clearly her father has been uncritically supportive of her her whole life. Belle actually has a lot of flaws. She's not a perfect goodie two shoes like the classic princesses. She's as disobedient, sneaky, and deceptive as the other renaissance princesses. But unlike the others, her father never reprimands her for it. Belle never once pauses to consider the possibility that she might be in the wrong.

Ultimately, Belle is the closest thing to a spoiled princess among the Disney princess lineup. She is closer to Ashman's original concept of Jasmine as a spoiled princess than what Jasmine evolved into after his all to early demise.

With all these flaws, why do I rank Belle so highly? It's because her flaws make her unpredictable and more adorable than the flawless princesses. Belle's flaws actually drive the story. Beast ironically nails it when he says she's being so "difficult". It's a subtle point which many miss, because everyone in the audience is thinking, "Heck yeah! I'd be difficult too, since you're such a jerk!" But the thing is--the audience is made up of normal people, like Belle. The classic Disney princesses weren't normal. They were superhumanly perfect. They wouldn't have been "difficult".

Belle is the perfect match for Beast, because she's an ordinary girl with ordinary flaws (by modern standards). She's the one to transform Beast into a decent man, by being such a challenge. At the same time, she's not an unreasonable challenge--she's not abnormally "difficult", she's just a normal girl with normal flaws.

Belle is neither heroic nor villianous. She's just a girl. Her noteworthy characteristic is that she has no noteworthy characteristic. That makes her, arguably, the most special of all.

Belle also sort of reminds me of my wife, in the sense that my wife whipped me into shape in much the say Belle whipped Beast into shape. But that really says more about me than her.

1/2. Ariel/Rapunzel
I've been waiting all day
I've been waiting all day

I can't discuss Ariel and Rapunzel separately. They are the ones who I personally relate to the most. They are the ones who most remind me of me and my wife.

I could go on and on about many aspects of Ariel, but I'll just concentrate on one point of many. Ariel dreams of something that's impossibly unattainable. She yearns for it so much it hurts. I know that feeling so deeply and it hurts so much.

I've known this impossible yearning three times in my life. The first time was so pathetic, but it's a part of who I was. I yearned for love, for decades, and it was a destructive all consuming yearning the would only eventually be sated by the incredible miracle of my eventual wife falling in love with me. (She too, had this yearning, but unlike me she's attractive--I was ugly, especially on the inside.) The second time was when I conceived of some space propulsion concepts (a dream I haven't given up on, but which I'm now taking my time with). The third time is something I'm deeply struggling with currently. I wrote something so beautiful that I yearn to be a screenwriter...but it feels so hopelessly impossible.

My point is, I know how it feels to aim too high and to feel the pain of knowing it's surely impossible. Ariel dreams too high. She goes for it anyway. Well, Ariel's superior to me because she's fearless and doesn't doubt herself.

In contrast, Rapunzel is wracked with fear and self doubt--something I know all to well (as well as my wife). Rapunzel's dreams are more modest; she's not a big dreamer like myself. She's more similar to my wife in that respect.

But the big thing that makes Rapunzel remind me of my wife is that she has no idea how beautiful and precious she is. No matter how many times I tell her, she doesn't believe me. She just doesn't understand how completely out of my league she is.

I could go on and on about how Ariel and Rapunzel are objectively amazing and interesting characters, but anyone could do that. Personally, I have feelings for them which are deeply personal. I see in Ariel and Rapunzel myself and my love.
The fans have voted, and princesslullaby won by a landslide! Here is our first interview with one of the many great fans on this spot.

1. Congrats on being the first ever Disney Princess Fan of the Month! How do you feel?
Really flattered and honored! It's nice to know my hard work on this site is being appreciated. ;)

2. Who are your top 3 princesses, and why?
Oh god....well, at the moment they're Ariel, Belle, and Pocahontas, but I haven't really watched some of the movies in a while so it's tentative. But Ariel will always be number one!

3. Name your favorite:
Princess movie-Little Mermaid.

The Disney Renaissance, one if the most successful times for WDAS from the late 80s to the late 90s (or to some people, the mid 90s).
(1989-1999)
(1989-1999)

(1989-1994)
(1989-1994)

This era is known for its amazing musicals, top notch hand drawn animation using the computer, many awards, and great critical and financial success (most of them), and the movie that is known to start this fantastic era is The Little Mermaid, which I think gets too much credit for starting the Renaissance, and I know many will disagree, but hear me out.

The Disney Renaissance was the time where a lot of money was made, which...

So I did a countdown of who would be most likely to survive in the abusive type of households Snow White and Cinderella had lived in. I must say I'm disappointed more people didn't participate (well, at least 28 people VOTED every round, yet there was usually no more than 7 comments per poll). I would have loved to see more people's input because the whole reason I did this countdown is because I am so sick of people acting like Snow and Cinderella's situations were not all that bad, like they could have just left easily. Anyway, here are the results:

9. Jasmine. Well, to nobody's surprise,...

I know that this is common on this site, but I feel like my Disney Princess ranking is a must. Merida, Anna and Elsa are included, and I don't usually see them being include in these.
To make things clear, there are times where I like every Disney princess. I dislike one, am okay with two, really like four, and absolutely adore six.
I try to balance out my descriptions. I tried to talk about the characters' good qualities because I just hate it when you read rankings that just sound like complaints, but I had to address their flaws as well so that readers could understand my reasoning.

What is the most thing about a Disney movie? If you answer opening your right if you answer ducks...well maybe next time. All openings from Snow White to Frozen

12: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
I love story book openings and I love reading...but I don't like having to read the movie...it's a little slow to the get go and well my family hates it when someone reads out loud...so it doesn't work for me. Also it takes to long to get to One Song...so I dislike it.

11: Pocahontas
I love Pocahontas it's my fourth Favorite movie...but the beginning is also a little slow...besides my sexy men's voices...

Heeeeeellllllooooooo!!!!! If you are wondering why I am so happy it's because I am finally making an article. Some decision, I know. Anyway, this is my first, so please hang in there, I'm going to try to not give my long rants. You know me, I'm always ranting.
This is my opinion, and I don't hate any DP (well, maybe just aurora, but That's it! Please don't bash me!) *Runs away*
I hope you enjoy

10. Aurora
I am going to try to not bash but it's not going to work so don't keep your hopes high. Anyway, she has NO personality. First of all, people say she is so elegant and graceful. I'm sorry! How...

I’ve wanted to do this for a while, and I realized that I wanted to do this before Merida joined because- well, you’ll see when I explain the structure of this article.
I’ve probably not been the most accurate at my favorite soundtrack on here whenever it’s been discussed because I tend to separate songs and score when I think of soundtrack, so I decided to do this to finally come up with my official list. I’ll rank songs and score separately, and then at the end I’ll average it out and put my list of overall soundtrack. See why I only wanted to include musicals! Oh, I’ll only...

This is the 3rd time I'm doing this type of article, but I hope you'll like this article anyway

My real name is Teresa and I'm 19 years old, but I'll be turning 20 this year and I was born September 16th 1994

I have 4 older siblings, 3 brothers and 1 sister, the youngest one of those is 10 years older than me (currently 11 because he just turned 30 on January 1st). I also have my mother and father that I live with, all of my siblings have of course moved out of home and live at very different places, my youngest brother lives in Helsinki, my sister lives about 30 minutes from our home, my middle...

Before I start the article, I have to say that this is just my opinion. So if you want to judge me please don't use BAD WORDS. You can kindly write your opinion in the comments.

I've always liked modern princesses more than classic princesses and Renaissance Princesses. My Top Five,

1- Elsa
2- Anna
3- Rapunzel
4- Moana
5- Tiana

As you can see, my top five are moderns. One of the reasons I love moderns is that they adapt to the new generation. Clothing would also be modern, so we don't feel like we're stuck in boring old times. Modern princesses aren't crazy about romance (except for Anna, but even...
