WhiteLagoon13 1 - Aurora was the first princess to act like a teenager (Snow White and Cinderella really didn't, since they act in a more mature way than most people their ages). She also is also more curious and thoughtful, just pay attention to the lyrics of “I Wonder”. She is imaginative and playful, as we see when she's dancing with her animal friends. Unlike Snow White and Cinderella, she seems to focus on the empty side of the glass: when she was told her parents were alive and she was a princess, she broke down thinking she would never see her animal friends or the handsome stranger again, and realized her whole life had been a lie (I probably would act the same way she did tbh). She HAS some traits in common with her two predecessors (including sassiness, something most people forget about) but she's different enough to be her own character, having her own virtues and flaws. I find characters like Rapunzel and especially Moana to be much more unoriginal than Aurora. 2 – While we don't actually see her reading, Aurora has books in her room (which means she DOES read). She also obeys her aunts when she's told to go to pick berries (despite knowing they're up to something), so it's not like she wasn't ordered to do anything during her whole life (she probably can cook as well because we can see how poor Fauna's cooking was). Aurora can't have a “sweet sibling relationship” or “a desire to protect her sister” because she's an only child (duh) and even if she wasn't, her sibling would've probably grown in the castle, far away from her. Also, singing and dancing require time, practice and talent. She already has the gift of a beautiful voice, why not using it? It's like putting [insert singer] down because she/he doesn't have any other career. 3 – While she's probably the most romantic of the princesses, we have to consider the fact that she was isolated from the world for 16 years; she only had the fairies and the animals. She also mentions she wants to find “someone”, not necessarily a love interest, because she has no human friends, let alone her age. And what's exactly wrong with romance anyway?

wavesurf Just FYI, I dislike Elsa. For lost of reasons. Chief among them, I find Elsa's fanbase is quite mean from time to time to time. I get that you're not interested in romance, yet, and while that's cool and all...what isn't cool is just lumping "boredom and copying from previous princesses together" to reach a conclusion that Aurora is "unoriginal." I find a character such as Elsa, who deliberately treats her sister with repeated "brushoffs" more questionable, than one who lays aside her whole desire for companionship to do her civic, public duty: marriage to prevent a war. The HUGE footnote that Merida missed entirely. But like I said, I don't like characters who are pointlessly mean to their siblings, even if they are born with dangerous powers. You're entitled to you opinion, of course. But that's why I find Elsa a bit blase, and repetitive, given that most of the superheroes and superheroines "have significant trouble" keeping their interpersonal relationships from falling completely apart. I see Elsa, Moana, Rapunzel, Tiana, and Raya through that lens, and I can't unsee it.
