I couldn't move my body, but I could feel everything around me. Like how Edward stopped breathing as he carried me up to Carlisle's study. I couldn't see anything, but I could hear. Hear the frantic whispers of the other Cullen's following us up the stairs. It felt like I wasn't getting enough air, like my lungs had shrunk and my body wasn't used to the air shortage. I felt sleepier, but I faught to keep conscious, I didn't want to lose a second of being with Edward before he was completely mine.
A cold, hard surface pressed against my back, breaking me away from my thoughts. There were two different sides. On one side was pitch black, so dark. On the other, my family's faces floated. I started walking away from the nothingness, towards my future but the black followed me. I started to pick up speed, but the black stayed the same pace. I ran faster to get away from the black but it followed me.
For some reason, I tripped and landed flat on my face. I tried to get up, but felt a shock as something colder than anything I'd ever felt touched my toes, and moved further up my body. It was colder than a brain freeze, colder than a vampire. I scrambled to pull myself away from the cold. I tried to call out to Edward, so he could save me, even though he couldn't possibly get here. I tried to imagine the sun and the heat of a fire.
It worked, I felt heat on my left wrist, then my ankles, then my other wrist and then on my throat. I felt as it got hotter and hotter until I had to scream. The fire had gotten inside me, not outside. I wanted to run into the blackness to see who would win, but I just couldn't do that to Edward, no matter how much the fire blackened me, and burned me. I couldn't leave Edward, no matter how much the fire made me wish I was dead, Edward was the only thing that could let me live in the fire. So I would wait. Wait for the fire to leave.
