Some of you might recall me trying to get a podcast sorted out for the fans of link but it didn't work too well due to microphone problems and Skype's servers as well as timelines. So, I came up with a new plan, but first, some podcast basics.
Podcasting 101
- In order to record a podcast, you will need a microphone and a recording program. I recommend link.
- In order to put your podcast online so that others can listen, you will need an RSS feed. We have one already set up, which I'll give out when it goes up.
- In order to listen to a podcast, you need internet access and a media player (iTunes, Quicktime etc.). They can be played either from direct links on the net (in Quicktime, RealPlayer etc.) or on portable MP3/AAC players (such as iPods, Zunes or various MP3 players)
New Plans
- Instead of recording a Skype conversation between users instead Fanpop Users can submit .mp3 files to the e-mail: link
- Then I'll rearrange the files in to a new file, with some added music and the such and the final file will be released to the internet as a podcast!
- This will be done every two to three weeks with any luck.
- Anyone can submit content, and the file will be split in to chapters, so if you don't want to listen to me yammer on about this week's Lost, you can skip straight past it.
- In order that the podcast isn't too long, try to keep to a maximum of twenty minutes in your audio file.
What do we need?
Good examples of what to contribute would be:
- Fan Fiction stories
- Episode reviews
- Game reviews
- Reviews of any kind really
- Fanpop "Recent Happenings"
- Plus anything else you can think of
Outside of the audio, we also need:
- A logo to be used on the podcast (Please submit these to this spot, with the keyword "fanpodcast logo" and then it will be put to a vote after the first podcast)
- Any independent music. Are you or a friend in a band, or are you a solo artist? Want to get your music out there? We'll close the podcast with a segment of music, and then let listeners know your official website, or where to get their hands on your music.
What else?
- One fan will take questions from other Fanpop Users each time. If questions are sent to the above e-mail, they will be passed along and then the user being questioned can answer them on the podcast. The first user you'll be sending them along to is me. So if you'd like to do that, please link.
- If you can produce a multi-person recording (your cousin/friend/person you know is on Fanpop too, and perhaps lives in the same house/street/close) then by all means do so.
That's all for now. Please do send along those e-mails and a link will be posted when the first episode is ready to go!
