I'l tell thee what, I'm sick of this!

Anyone notice the severe amount of hate floating round the site lately?

I have. And it sickens me. I've stayed silent in the past. I've tried to treat other users with respect. I've given people the benefit of the doubt.

No more.

The amount of 'hate' spots, anti-fan spots, picks insulting other users- people, need I remind you that this 'Fan'pop. Look it up in the dictionary. F-A-N. You see the word 'anti' or 'hate' anywhere? I hate Smurfs, do you see me making an Anti-Smurf spot?

I dislike Smurfs, but do you see an Anti-Smurf spot anywhere?

It has recently tried my patience to the limit. I admit it. I exploded at another Fanpopper over their conduct. I won't explain where or why. This isn't gossiping or telling tales. I've always tried to be reasonable, polite, constructive- basically show others the same respect that I would like them to show me. It takes a lot to rile me on this site.

Look, we know some of you talk to each other on MySpace and FaceBook. And tell you the truth, I couldn't give an uppity fuck about what you talk about there.

If you start dragging your grievances into Fanpop, then I will have your ass for breakfast, with no qualms.

I will have your ass on a platter!

Stop bringing fights into picks, soapboxes, forums, etc.

If you have a problem with another user, talk to the Fanpop Four. Sort it out privately. Stop trying to create a big song and dance about it!

Fanpop is not the place to unload your grievances about other users!

And do I care if you people think I'm being a self-righteous bitch in this soapbox? No.

Do I care about who started it? No.

If this continues, I may actually consider leaving the site for good. Get out before it turns into a fucking troll forum.

And I don't want to leave. I like the people here. The majority are nice, friendly people, who just want to share their interests online.

Now, excuse me, I need to go calm down. Before I do something I really regret.

(By the way, if this has been written before, sorry. Let me know, because I searched beforehand.)

tvman I feel differently actually. I feel there has been less fanpop hatred on here in the last little while. Really. Also, I don't like the words used in this article. The f-word, the a-word, and the b-word (yes, I mean swears). I don't like swearing on fanpop. It's cruel, and unnecessary. If you want to swear, make it fun, but discreat. like if you want to say the c-word, spell it like this (R@P. The a word can be spelled like this &$$, and the f-word, if you really need to use it, should be spelled like this FU(K. It's much nicer, considerate to everyone, and lets you express your creativity. Doing this is just common courtesy!

scififan This was an excelent article dazl! I haven't noticed a whole lot of hate (mainly because I confine myself to Buffy related spots and we all get along there...I hope) but I have noticed some. Arguments getting out of hand and such... THis was a great article and you really put some umph into your opinion. I do agree with tvman that there could have been less swearing. I understand you were upset (I just lef a "respectful correction" comment to a user earlier today, but I think that it should be remembered that some of the fanpop users are young (I think I met a 12 yr old somewhere...or maybe they were 13...) anyways, that type of language really isn't appropriate for anyone...especially the younger poppers. Still, great article! You made your point you gave it umph. I'm betting this soapbox makes the featured box very soon...

Cinders I have things to say. But it must wait for tomorrow. I assure you they are all good things. If I had something not so good to say, I would probably message you about it.

DrDevience What my husband said... AND - TVman, seriously dude... if she had done it like this: FU(K. are you telling me then 12 year olds wouldn't know what the word was? For reals? You think that? What on earth is the difference between FU(K and Fuck? Ludicrous. and I'll bet you my two cats that spelling it f*ck still wouldn't make a diff in you knowing what the damned word is. I see no problem with someone using the full extent of thier vocabulary, and those words DO have a use. They are qualifiers just like big, blue, and huge. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Fucking huge is simply bigger than darned huge... and obviously has nothing at all to do with sex. Wait. Ok.. I could have picked a better example than Huge to qualify... Ehhh GOOD FUCKING JOB DAZL!

amazondebs although i will always disagree with using swearing in debates i think they definatly belong in a big angry rant anyways brilliant article dazl, glad you feel better after your easter egg, but if you leave i will hunt you down and drag you back by your leprechaun suit

dazl Tvman, you're entitled to your opinion. But I like the way you tell me how to rant. I curb my normal vocabulary on this website, but when I'm ranting, I don' care. I invoke Cinders argument that swearing can add emphasis if used correctly. And I like the words uppity fuck.

miiamya On the whole swearing issue - I don't think that some should depend on swear words or litter their comments with inappropriate words, HOWEVER - and this is a fucking huge however - an occasional swear can have the splendid effect of emphasizing a point. hmmm...maybe I should write a soapbox...

Saul_Mikoliunas Tvman-Is crap a swear word? I just thought it was a slightly better word than rubbish. (R@P is just too confusing to work out. Dazl-I was going to be noesy and inquire what had started this rant but I just found it =D I agree with everything you said. We don't want you to leave the site. We will just push out the arguees. (I don't know what else to call them =D )

Cinders Well fuck a duck with a truck. If one remembers when the swearing rule came up in the debate spot, they may remember me advocating for less swearing on the spot. But debs got it right in that my main reason for supporting that was to keep the debate spot somewhat respectable, or at least a little bit formal. If you remember this, you may remember noticing that I was a little frustrated with the argument, mainly because I saw validity in what people like the good doctor was saying, and I was mainly holding up my end out of respect and courtesy for those who didn't like swearing. But what people say, I cannot control, and even admitted this during the debate in the debate spot. Which really makes the argument rather moot. I swear like a motherfucker in every day life, and I agree that they provide good qualifiers and are valid parts of your vocabulary. I acknowledge that folks like tvman and co are sometimes offended by swears, but I'm tired of apologizing for expressing my opinion how I see fit. I do not swear (often) on this site because of the little children, but I do remind myself that I have been swearing since fifth grade, so... The fact of the matter is, they're words. And folks will say them. On the other hand (and call me a hypocrite) I get rather angry if I hear a friend use a racial or other biggotted slur. Although in the right circumstance it can, on occasion, be hilarious. (Randall in "Clerks 2" when he tried to reclaim "Porch Monkey"-- no one be offended please). AS for your article, dear Dara (I wish your name had an E instead of another A so that could be an anagram). Feuding Fanpoppers can (and have) sorted out their issues privately, so I know, from experience, that it is possible. There is no need to go on the site advertising that you are fighting and trying to rally people to your side. This ain't high school. Or, in short.... I agree.

DrDevience On the issue of young children, I would like to ask just what is it, exactly, that you think is going to happen upon them hearing or reading the F word? Some people act like the child will immediately start with the head spinning and go on a murderous rampage...

aholic In Denmark, many people use the word "fuck" for expressing anger. They use it instead of the English word "dammit". (people in their 40's even use it too) Words are words and they can mean a lot of things, but was'nt this an article about not getting angry with each other like some of us are right now? I'm young too, but I don't care about what words people use, because I know what people mean, although it's not always the correct word to use. "fuck" and "shit" are frequently used in Denmark "oh my god" too for that matter, but it's about how people say it. Now like what miiamya said, lets all wave our white flags.

meeee Look probably the youngest person on fanpop is 12 and I don't know any 12 year olds that don't swear if you do I'll give you a tenner(I'll need proof) And anyway this is an article about stopping the hate so why are people starting an argument about swearing... dazl I hope you enjoyed your easter egg. If it helps people you can say feck(thank you Father Ted)you can use it just the same as fuck but technically it's not a bad word it means to steal.

fr34kygl well.. not all the anti spots: harry and his OTHER women should stay cause to some people he really doesn't belong with ginny and we all like her.. but this is not what i wanted to say! dazl, please don't leave fanpop... who will i crazy table dance with?! Who will write UNREADABLE messages when drunk and don't remember them the day after that?? Who will put up awesome user icons of u having fun?? No no no, you're staying! there's hate everywhere, we humans can't just be nice, that's the way it is. But we can keep it to a minimum and that's what i've been trying to do! Just to keep you around ;)
