Chapter Eight
"Titanic"
Mohinder, Alexis, Maya and Cole - Ferry
The three sank to their knees as they struggled for air. "Maya..." Mohinder muttered, as he crawled over the the window and feebly attempted to smash it. Alexis collapsed, falling sideways into a small patch of sunlight cast by the window, so that her face was illuminated.
Suddenly the room gradually began to fill with air again, despite the fact that the guards had not turned the valve back and were watching them with odd expressions of self-repulsion and inner conflict tinged with fear.
"Play dead" Mohinder muttered, feining collapse so as to hide his face from the guards. Alexis merely remained were she lay and Cole slid further down the wall he was resting on, until he hit the floor. "I've got a plan" Mohinder whispered to Cole.
A few minutes later and Cole opened his eyes to see the guards had gone. Presumedly to open the door to remove their bodies. "Now!" he called, jumping to his feet as Mohinder did the same, bracing himself.
With a wave of his hand, the strange purple-black mist appeared momentarily around Mohinder's feet, as they began to fall at great speed towards the window only feet away. As he hit, Mohinder punched at the glass with all the strength he could muster, shattering it to pieces as he flew through at speed. Cole waved his hand again, to cause Mohinder fall to the ground and continue to slide across the deck floor for quite a while before slamming into a railing on the far side.
His eyes flashing purple-black once more, Cole picked up Maya and her stretcher as if they were weightless and stepped through the window with them, before offering his hand to help Alexis through. "Why thank you." she said, nodding slightly, before extending her hand and freezing mid motion looking at it.
Her hands had sprouted the odd green bubbles again. "Get away from me!" she screamed, vaulting through the window and running from him.
"Wait!" Cole called, watching her run. She rounded a corner and after a deafening bang that reverberated around the deck, fell to the floor in a heap. "Crap, come on." Cole called to Mohinder, grabbing Maya and running over to the railing again as a large group of people advanced on Alexis' motionless body, aiming guns.
"Wait!" Mohinder shouted, as shouts and gunshots were heard. As they had approached her, vivid green chutes had erupted from all over her body, encasing her in some wierd sort of shell, protecting her from their bullets.
As he watched, Mohinder saw hundreds of similiar, thin green spikes burst from the 'shell' at impossible speed, impaling and wrapping themselves around the many guards.
The 'shell' opened at the top, like a flower blooming and from it rose a figure. Alexis. She was supported by a rising column of the green spikes, which, as far as he could see, were emanating from her neck, wrists, fingers, feet and legs. "Help me!" Mohinder heard her call from the distance, it seemed she had lost control completely. One of the protrusions seemed to grab a guard from the deck as if he were a rag doll, wrapping itself around him like some creepy kind of finger, lifting him up to where Alexis now stood, considerably higher than everyone else.
"Do something!" Mohinder called, turning to see Cole looking confused and afraid as he watched her say something to the guard before he was ripped apart by the freaky protrustions.
Coming to his senses, Cole ran forward, his eyes glowing and aimed both hands at Alexis. She turned to him, with a look of shock on her face, as two spikes flew at Cole whilst he stood there, focusing. The 'shell' was suddenly rent from the deck, taking a large chunk of it along, as it suddenly began to fly over the side of the ship, taking Alexis and various entangled and impaled guards with it.
As he stood there, one of the vines managed to pierce Cole's foot, just as it was pulled backwards with the rest, causing Cole to be thrown from the ship and dragged under with the quickly sinking Alexis.
