Disney had its share of awesome women and not-so-cool women, correct? Ironically, they got shit for the way they portrayed women. I'm pretty sure you've read ButtercupthePPG's article about Disney. Her posts were like something an angry teenager would say! Anyways, I would now mention the most awesome women in Disney.

Let's start with Mulan. I'm pretty sure it was based on some folklore and a historical event in China that happened so long ago. Mulan started off in the movie as an unconfident girl trying to bring honor to her family.

No matter how hard she tried, she would mess up. Anybody could relate to that, trying to please people, only to find out that people could never be too pleased. After Mulan found out that her father was to rejoin the army or something, she tried to prevent him from doing so, for he was injured.

As the movie went on, she dressed up as a man, cut off her hair and escaped her home in the middle of a stormy night. Along the way, she met Mushu, the sarcastic little dragon. At camp, she tried to adjust to her false identity. She and the rest of the army trained for war, and when they went to war, Mulan stopped the Huns using a single cannon. And she rescued Shang and other victims!

Unfortunately, after she was injured, Shang found out that she was a girl, and left her alone. After that, Mulan found out that the Huns weren't dead, and she tried to warn Shang. She tried to, but he didn't believe her at first.

Fast-forward to when she and Shan-Yu had a rooftop confrontation. When he tried to kill Mulan, she used her fan to block the attack. After that, with Mushu's help, she blasted the villainous man into a nearby tower. She was then celebrated as a hero, especially by the emperor, despite what other things she did.

Next is Pocahontas. In the movie, we first saw her when she jumped into the water. If that wasn't correct or something, that was because I couldn't remember the exact order of every single movie I watched. Anyways, when she returned to the Native American village, her father arranged for her to marry Kocum. However, Pocahontas wasn't satisfied that her father would decide for her.

She tried to convince him not to arrange it, but he said that it was her only path. Pocahontas laughed it off, and after that, she rode her canoe across the river as part of a song about not taking the smoothest course. And when she spoke to Grandmother Willow about the spinning arrow dream, the wise Willow suggested that perhaps the arrow was pointing to a certain path.

After that, Pocahontas met John Smith; at first, she was wary. And when they introduced themselves to one another, she taught him to respect nature through the song Colors of the Wind. Fast-forward to when she and John Smith had their moment in some part of the woods, and then Kocum tried to attack John Smith. A man with a gun shot Kocum, which made Pocahontas charge at him. However, Smith pacified her, saying that it won't help.

The other Native Americans mistakenly perceived John Smith to be the culprit, motivating Pocahontas to save him. By sunrise, she protected him from being killed by Powahatan, the chief of the tribe. Because of her display of courage and wisdom, Powahatan decided to listen to her words. After John Smith got shot, Pocahontas had to say good-bye to him. She had to stay with her tribe, which was the reason why she won't go to England.

In the sequel, however, Disney seemed to weaken Pocahonta's character. I won't even talk about the sequel.

Next up is Merida. Even if she originated from a movie that was the result of the collaboration between Pixar and Disney, she was still a Disney princess, albeit she wasn't too weak nor feminine (there's nothing wrong with being feminine, though).

She managed to show off her archery skills and she was somewhat rebellious. However, she was afraid of Mordu and then allowed her mother to defeat him. After that, Merida broke the curse with love by sunrise. I couldn't remember the whole movie, for I only watched it one time.

Rapunzuel from Tangled- She saved Flynn Ryder a few times and she didn't fuss about being locked up in a tower for eighteen years. That's pretty badass, wasn't it?

Ariel and Jasmine wouldn't count, because they had to be saved by a man.

Belle from Beauty and the Beast- She was smart, headstrong and independent. She refused to marry Gaston. She even convinced the beast to release her father from the dungeon. She saved the Beast by breaking the curse.

Anna might get a mention, but Elsa? Not so much. Elsa was the helpless woman because she couldn't control her powers. Anna braved the cold and sacrificed herself for her sister. And she even punched Hans off the ship!

Before I could end the article, I wanted to mention one more Disney woman; she wasn't a Disney princess, and she didn't marry a prince. She wasn't a teenager or a Mary-Sue. She was Maleficent, portrayed by Angelina Jolie. I know most people didn't like the movie, and that I might be the only one in the world that enjoyed that movie.

Maleficent's backstory was explored in the first part of the movie; as she grew older, she matured from a playful and silly little girl to a mature and stoic young adult. She even became the fierce defender of the faerie kingdom. And in the second part, she was vengeful because Stefan betrayed her. She cursed Aurora, but as that girl grew, Maleficent grew to love her. On that damsel-in-distress's sixteenth birthday, Maleficent had to save her by breaking the curse herself.

Maleficent even defeated Stefan after getting her wings back. After that, she crowned Aurora a queen; the part of the movie that doesn't make sense. What did Aurora even do that would be considered badass? Nothing! A real queen would protect her kingdom, not wait for someone to rescue her. Anyways, that's it for the list of awesome women in Disney.

Tell me what you think of this list. If you think there should be another Disney woman that deserves to be mentioned, you can talk about her.
