He was truly beautiful, no doubt about it. Not many people agree that men can be beautiful, but I beg to differ. Just looking into his eyes, would change the minds of any sane person, with their warmth and love shining out from his heart. Small, lilac flowers blossomed in his eyes with the melting sunset as a background, glowing with the depths of universal love. They are my weakness.
Feathers of chestnut-brown hair, that hung low by his ears, shine with radiance only the Summer King could have. His sun-kissed skin glowed with pure admiration as he laid eyes upon his Queen. I stood facing him, vines entwined in my hair, with a faint smile on my lips while he gazed upon me. Holding out a hand, he came closer, wanting to close the distance quickly.
I laid my dainty hand in his, letting the sunshine flow through our bodies and healing our time apart.
He knelt before me, as if he were my subject awaiting orders. But tonight, I didn’t want to be throwing orders. Tonight, I wanted to feel free, powerless with our court, as the Summer Queen. This was my King.
‘My Queen.’
‘I am,’ I answered ‘your only Queen.’
He still knelt, but raised his head to look at me. Around us, fairies waited for our greeting to be over so we could start the revelry and dance with Summer.
He held my hand and pulled me towards him, while rising so he now looked down upon me. I faced him and felt the warm sunshine fall onto me, melting into my skin and lighting me up so we both glowed against the burnt sky.
‘Brook, will you start the revelry… with me?’ he asked, the question lingering in the air.
He plucked an orchard petal from my hair and offered it to me.
‘I can’t promise forever.’ And accepted the petal, placing it in his hair as it blossomed into a whole new flower.
He pulled me into his arms as we began to move, bare foot, across the warm soil, raising the earth and creating flowers as their buds blossomed around us. I felt his warmth against my ears as he whispered,
‘You already gave me forever, Brook. All I’m asking for is this moment.’
I shivered against his touch as his arms encircled me, wrapping me in everything that I am, and will be. The Summer court will dance with frivolity and drink the riches of Summer Wine, we will bask in joy with the summer’s warmth around us.
‘Dance with me.’ He whispered; low and husky –almost a growl.
Slowly walking out to the middle he tempted me with the words,
‘Drown yourself in the summer music, Brook. Let it flow through your body like blood through your veins. Let it sing to your ears and take you away from everything that’s real. Music is your only way to escape, Brook.’
And as I reached him he twisted me out, and brought me back to him as the warm honey soaked into me, from him. From then on we danced. We spun and twirled and everything came alive. The whole place was ablaze with music and life, we drank bottled sunlight in beautiful goblets and laughed with our court.
I felt hope and joy spread like a tempest through the fairies, we could bring these creatures back to life.
The world spun away from under my feet, leaving the rich warmth of the earth, girls in laced frocks twirled past us, blurs of vibrant and unique colours against mahogany skin merged as vines slithered over their bare skin.

After a life-time of jovial dancing, he rested me onto my feet and spoke the words,
‘Tell me when to let go.’
‘Don’t let me fall, don’t,’ I clutched him closer, desperate for him to lift me again.
‘You’ve never needed catching. Brook.’ His lips brushed mine and I tasted sugar and honey on them. His sweet breath brushed my skin, causing me to feel a little light-headed.
‘I don’t know what I’d do without you.’ I leaned into him, seeking comfort. He held me and let pure Summer leak over me and lifted me higher.
‘You’ll never have to find out.’ This time there was no need for words. I knew where I was and that’s all that mattered. His lips took everything way and made me feel like I was swallowing sunshine, and I didn’t resist. Letting it slip down my throat, I tasted honey and the sweetest of sugar on his lips. Almost like syrup, my favourite flavour by far, his own self tasted of that syrup and I couldn’t help but want more. The temperature rose causing the burnt copper above us to turn a tropical blue. Flowers burst out around us, from the soil, under our feet as he spun me and ran his hands though my golden twists. Where his hands went, warmth was left behind as vines slid from my own, wrapping around him.
I was swept up from under myself as my King carried me away to our orchard, where the sweetest of all fruit was grown by our fairy magic and love. The tenderness of his touch lit my spirit and sent away all the sadness I’d ever felt.

Together we would rule our court. Our Summer fairies. Our tenderness towards their own will bring light and warmth to the world, and to us.
