Tom Gordon: Don't call me Dad. I'm not your father.
Melinda: I wasn't talking to you!
(Paul Eastman appears behind Tom.)
Tom: You're too good for your own good. I was hoping that you would get scared off, but you don't scare easily do you?
(Tom starts choking Melinda)
Melinda: Dad...please, Dad!
Tom: Don't call me Dad. I'm not your father.
Melinda: I wasn't talking to you.
(Melinda's real father's ghost puts himself in Tom's body and releases the choke hold)
Melinda: You're my father? Have you always known?
Paul: After I died I'd forgotten almost everything about my life, it's like I became paralyzed stuck down below with all of the other angry spirits. But, then I saw something; something that changed everything, it woke me up.
Melinda: What?
Paul: You. When I saw you moving through the church, I knew instantly. I felt that you were from me. You were so beautiful. The more I watched you I saw you pine for the man you thought was your father. How you were waiting for him to love you back, but I knew I never compete with your idea of him. So I had to make you destroy the myth yourself.
Melinda: You could have told me this sooner.
Paul: You never would have believed me. This is a journey you had to make on your own, with my help. You spent so much time trying to understand that man trying to be your father, you never saw the one person who was right in front on your eyes.
Melinda: I tried but she pushes me away and lies about everything.
Paul: She only wanted to protect you, that's what mothers do. But, you have always looked at her in the shadow of Tom Gordon. But, she has always put you first. It's time to make things right. Be too good for your own good.
Beth: I don't blame you for hating me.
Melinda: Mom, I could never hate you. You’re busy fighting your own battles.
Beth: You always believed in him, I just didn't see how I could take that away from you.
Melinda: Mom I'm relieved. My father didn't abandon me, at least not by choice. And to know that he would have wanted me if he could have made all the difference. Somewhere deep down inside I felt like I was disposable, now I don't.
(Ghost of Paul Eastman appears)
Paul: Never fond of seeing ghosts were you?
Beth: I'll make an exception today. How can you ever forgive me?
Paul: I was so full of rage at you and him, I just wanted you all to feel as much pain as I did. That all went away with just one word.
Melinda: What?
Paul: (Looking at Melinda) Dad. When my daughter called for me, when she needed me, all the furry just went away and I just wanted to save her.
Beth: If I could do this all over again
Paul: I wouldn't change a thing. Look at what we created. She is the reason we came together, nothing else matters, nothing.
(Paul sees 'the light')
Melinda: The light?
Paul: It's getting brighter.
Melinda: But there's so much I need to know.
Paul: No there isn't. You're loved, that is all that is everything. And so am I.
(Paul walks into the light)
