“Lisa Edelstein” the one who was questioned answered
“And what is your relationship with Mr. Laurie?”
“We are co-stars and good friends. But that goes together either way.”
“Yes…And how good friends exactly?”
“I don’t understand the question…”
“Are you just friends, friends with benefits, or best friends?”
“Excuse me, friends with benefits?”
“Miss Edelstein, please answer” the judge requested
“We are, from my point of view, just friends.”
“And what does that mean?”
“I, again, do not understand what you’re asking.”
“What does the term just friends mean to you?”
“It means, we are friends, we talk, we hang out, we laugh together…”
“I see… And do you think Mr. Laurie feels the same way as you?”
“You mean does he think we’re just friends? I believe so.”
“Right, then… Miss Edelstein, I am going to show you several pictures and I will have to ask you what you think is going on with the people in them.”
“Ok… But what does that have to do with anything?”
“You will see…
Here you go, the picture number one.” The lawyer said as he pushed the play button and the first picture appeared on the video beam provided by the court.
It was a picture of young woman and a young man. The woman leaning on the man’s shoulder, both of them smiling.
“What do you think of this people? How do they feel to each other?”
“I think… they feel comfortable?”
“And? The man has his arms really close to the woman and the woman is leaning into him… What do you make off of that?”
“Well, they could be in love, I don’t know…”
“I see… Let me show you another picture…” he pushed the button again and the familiar picture showed up.
“I don’t understand” Lisa shook her head, everyone in the public going ‘ha’. Her eyes searched for Hugh lawyer’s and the man sighed in disbelief, glaring.
“How do you think the couple in this picture feel for each other?” the lawyer pushed further.
“But I don’t understand, it’s a picture of… It’s a picture of Hugh and me…”
She glanced at it again, the lawyer coming so close, she could feel his breath on her skin.
“Yes, it’s a picture of you, miss Edelstein, and Mr. Laurie. Mr. Laurie has his arms really close to you and you are leaning into him… What do you think of that?”
“We’re just friends… you don’t understand…” she tried to defend herself, themselves.
“YOU don’t understand miss Edelstein, you just said, that in the picture highly similar to this one, were most likely in love couple. Now, you tell me, that you two are just friends? You do not understand!” She was on the edge of screaming. She caught a glimpse of Hugh biting his nails. She could screw this up.
“I do! It’s called marketing! Do you think we act like that all the time?” she tried to get out of the mess she made.
“Well, every picture of you two speak for itself, and they all have pretty similar story to tell…”
“Marketing!” she yelled.
“Mr. Hopkins I would have to ask you to end your questioning…” the judge warned the lawyer.
“Yes, your honor…” he said while returning to his seat. He was about to sit down, when he rapidly turned around and said
“I have just one more question… May I, your honor?”
“One question! We had enough of this, this woman has gone through enough.”
“Thank you, your honor…” the lawyer paused
“Miss Edelstein, are you in love with Mr. Laurie?” he finally asked what he needed to.
She didn’t respond.
“Miss?”
Her eyes searched for Hugh’s. Ice blue meeting blue-gray.
“Miss?”
“I… I don’t think I am…”
