„I think I know you from somewhere…” I said trying to figure out if we have really met before. He touched a drop of his vodka and kept staring at me with a smile on his face. “Why are you smiling? You know where we have met?” I looked at him suspiciously.
“No, I don’t think we’ve met before.”
“Oh come on, tell me!” I playfully punched him my small purse in the arm.
“I’m an actor. Not a really famous one here, but you may saw me…”
“So you are Hugh…” I desperately tried to remind his surname, but it turned out harder than I thought.
“..Laurie.” he nodded and drunk his vodka down.
“Oh my God, it’s you!” I shouted a little too loud and somebody’s hand landed on my shoulder from behind.
“Who is he sweetie?” James asked loudly, mocking my tone. He sat on the chair on the left and looked at Hugh.
“Oh, James, this is Hugh. A British actor” my mouth uncontrollable puckered in a flirty smile. “Hugh, meet my friend James.” Both men squeezed each others hands.
“So what took you so long? We’re sitting here for a while…” I turned to James who left me for a minute before I walked to the club.
“Let’s say I met an old friend, Aaron. Actually we’d like to renew our deep, deep friendship.. Are you going to stay here for while?” James asked Hugh giving him the look.
“I think I am” he smiled again. He looked so adorable when he was smiling.
“Excellent!” James clapped him hands “Honey, would you mind if I left you with this prince charming and be back in a couple of hours?”
“James, you promised to spend this evening with me!” I made the face of an offended little girl which always worked on him.
“No problem, you can go, I will try to stand in for you… Is it okay?” Hugh interposed before he had a chance to speak again. I opened my mouth to say something to stop James, but I didn’t get a chance when he gave me a peck on the cheek and quickly walked out form the club, waving to us from the exit.
“I hate it when he does that…” I said with a little sadness in my voice, being by myself again. Fortunately this time I had an opportunity to change another lonely evening into a really good one with a nice guy by my side. He was still staring at me with his beautiful ocean blue eyes and I felt slightly uncomfortable being admired by him.
“Oh I’m sorry” I suddenly drew myself up, tearing my eyes away from her “I got lost in my thoughts for a while.” I made a pause, deep inside praying that she didn’t notice that or, worse still, read minds! I glimpsed at her and she smiled. That was the most charming smile I have ever seen. It was so gentle and warm, expressing a thousand words and melting a million hearts. I needed to start to control myself again, because if I didn’t my jaw would be now laying crushed on the floor.
Suddenly the lights went off and the music stopped.
“Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to our 5th karaoke night at Catalina Jazz Club! I can see a lot of habitual guests in here, so I won’t be protracting and we will start right now!” the laud applause filled the room.
“What?” I turned to Lisa with disbelief, I had no idea something like that is holding tonight.
“You didn’t know? There’s a huge tablet outside with the information.”
