Although actress Kaya Scodelario is mainly known for her iconic role as Effy Stonem in the British TV series Skins, it appears that she\'s spreading her wings in the entertainment industry, starring in a number of colossal projects in the near-future that will definitely make her a household name in Hollywood.
And whilst there might still be a couple of years until the release of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, in which she courageously straps herself into Keira Knightley\'s corset as Carina Smyth, it is her upcoming performance as Teresa in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trails that\'s currently causing a stir. Check out the trailer for the movie below:
Needless to say, Kaya is one incredible little lady. Yet, how much do you really know about the actress? Let\'s find out!
Kaya fully embraces her Brazilian roots. Speaking about her heritage, she says:
My mum is Brazilian and very proud [...] I\'d love to do a Brazilian film. I\'ve been brought up in the Brazilian culture. My mum brought me up on my own. I cook Brazilian food. I\'ve never spoken a word of English to my mother.
As past of her bucket list, she would also love to live in Brazil for a year in the future.
If you remember, it\'s the British show that brought her fame in the role of Nicholas Hoult\'s little wild-child sister Effie. Here she is in the third season of the series, in which her character takes center stage:
And even though her time on the series has come to close, she\'s still a huge fan of her former co-stars:
My favorite actors are people that I\'ve worked with. The Skins kids, all of them, every single one, are my favorite actors because you learn so much from them.
Doing exercise has never really been her thing. She says:
I\'ve never been a sporty person at all. I don\'t exercise, I eat s*** food, I\'m awful.
5. She bonded with the guys from The Maze Runner in a rather unconventional way
The first thing I actually said to them when I met them was that I was really gassy on the plane. And I think that kinda gave us a nice even level, and we bonded really quickly — with all of them.
She has been very outspoken about having a developmental reading disorder.
Yep, Kaya almost stole Jennifer Lawrence\'s part. Just imagine how differently the franchise would have turned out!
8. She will always say "no" to two-dimensional female roles
She claims that she could never play just the girlfriend or the female conquest.
I was raised by my mother alone [...] She\'s one of the strongest women in the world. So for me, it\'s very, very important to show it - and especially that young girls can be inspirational.
Coincidentally, she\'s also a huge fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger:
Growing up, I was obsessed with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which is why my dog is called Arnie. His films were pure Hollywood to me and I\'ve seen all of them more than 50 times. The Terminator is my favourite. I haven\'t met him - it would be too freaky, I think I\'d faint, I love him too much.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is released in the USA on September 18, 2015.
