Chapter 9: A Little More
"I'm baaaaack! Who missed moi?" Jessica threw her bag on the floor and made her self at home again at the cabin. Dante followed suit. "Hey, where you- woah." Kick stood at the foot of the stairs, mouth agape. "Kick, this is Dante, my boyfriend."she said cautiously. "I was wondering if he could stay with me for the remaining time." she smiled hopefully at him . Kick sighed and acquiesced. "Yeah"he leered at Dante before walking away, distastefully. He thought to himself "she will come crawling back, after I saved her life, she will realize her feelings for me, and want me ." he was so sure of himself.
After introducing Dante to the company at the cabin, she settled down to have a heartfelt conversation with her old flame. "look, Clarence, I know that you still have strong feelings for me," she looped her hair tightly around her finger. "but time has past and things have changed, and so has my heart. I want to be with Dante. " those words hit Kick like a concrete wall. Not even in his wildest dreams could he have thought this up. "I understand." and he left her with those few words, his soul quietly collapsing.
