It was a cool, sunny afternoon. All the kids and teenagers were playing in the field. The seagulls were squawking about, flying in circles over the sea. 14 year old, Bessie Dew, was sitting by the bay, looking into the horizon. Many people weren’t friends with her. She was very odd from all of the other kids her age. But she did have one friend. His name was Arthur Meadow. He’s the one who taught Bessie how to sword fight. She got into many sword fights and ended up winning. But no one knows about her past since she barely talks about it. Arthur had a part time job working in a pub.
Arthur finished his daily job and walked by Bessie’s usually spot, which was by the bay. He tapped Bessie’s shoulder. Bessie, who was caught up in a daydream, was a bit surprised to see that it was only her friend.
“Oh, it’s just you Arthur. Don’t bloody scare me like that every again!” said Bessie, who happened to see the money that was for her and took it from Arthur’s hand
“Uh, sorry. Anyways, I think it’s time we leave. I heard in the pub that a famous pirate’s coming to town. He’s going to rob all of our merchants and homes.” Said Arthur, a bit worried.
“Heh, you’re afraid of a pirate? Arthur, who’s the best sword fighter here?” asked Bessie
“Y-you are….but you wouldn’t have been if I hadn’t taught you! Really Bessie, you should stop being a bragger like that. One day, someone’s going to tell you off.” Said Arthur
“I’m not worried one bit. I mean, we have guards here that the king sent for our protection. Pirates wouldn’t be such a big deal, like when was the last time pirates came to this town?” asked Bessie
“Right now….come on Bessie!” said Arthur, as he grabbed Bessie’s hand and ran off with her.
“Unhand me Arthur! I could handle myself!” yelled Bessie
“No! I don’t want you to get killed because of your carelessness!” said Arthur
“Carelessness?! I say sir, I am very responsible!” yelled Bessie
“This is not the time for this Bessie! We have to get inside my house now!” said Arthur
Arthur began running even faster and pulling Bessie. Bessie used all of her strength to keep up with Arthur. The duo managed to find the Meadow household, but they stood there in shock. There stood the pirates, with Arthur’s parents and little sister.
“I suppose ye give what I want before ye loved ones get hurt.” Said the pirate captain
“Well, I suppose you get away from my friend’s family members before I kick your-“started Bessie, whose sentence got cut off because Arthur covered her mouth
“I really despise being your friend sometimes.” Said Arthur, a bit mad
“Don’t you have a smart mouth?” Said the pirate captain, while pushing Arthur out of the way and picking up Bessie.
The pirate started to stare at her for a while, especially in her eyes. He then threw her away in disgust.
“Bessie!” cried out Arthur
