While many literature academics poo-poo the Anne of Green Gables collection as merely for little girls, I find that the novels grow more poignant the older I become. While the stories are primarily a bildungsroman (a tale of growth) for Anne, Montgomery also reveals a view into Canadian life before and during WWII.
