((I wrote this on dA recently, but felt like copying it. XD))
The milky pink-ness of the sky, along with the setting sun, was turning me a dark orange. My brown school case dangled at my side as I breathed a sigh of relief.
Another day gone, I thought.
Suddenly, fingers sunk into my shoulders and swiftly turned me around and slammed my back against the side wall. I thought at first it was Akane, because God only knows what excuse she'd crafted to kick my butt today. To my surprise, it was the exact opposite.
"Hey, Sofie! Man, I thought I'd NEVER catch you!" his eyes laughed playfully.
"Hello, Ranma." I grinned. He released me, and I looked down at my hands which had curled themselves around the handle of my case tightly. "So," I continued, "you were following me?"
"Well, sure." Ranma said easily. "Those weird kids I met today kept buggin' me about you. They were all, 'Saotome, where's that cute head-headed girl you were hanging out with?' ... I guess they saw you play baseball with ... uh, Akane. They asked me to get word from you, but I could never bore you with that crap."
My cheeks flushed a bit and I smiled a closed-eyes smile.
I was so happy about seeing Ranma again. According to him, he was staying in Nerima just like me because of an arranged marriage. The thought made my insides twist. Perhaps the reason he was around me so much was because it was already half-way through the school year when Ranma enrolled (just a few days ago) and everyone had already formed groups, or the fact we had been friends since him, Ryoga, and I were about 6.
"I'm glad they like me."
"Heh, LIKE YOU? When I came, all they DID was talk about you."
This made my smile grow until something tugged my heart-strings.
"Yes, well... thats only BECAUSE you came."
He stopped walking.
"What do you mean?"
I meant that Those two "kids" had loved Akane since forever. They were now interested in me because I was the so-called second prettiest girl attending Furinkan High. Second only to Miss Akane Tendo herself, so was now taken.
My smile turned into a warm, but weaker grin.
"Nothing." I said. Ranma put his arms on the back of his head.
"If you say so."
The next morning, Ranma had "caught" me again. Still not wearing his school uniform like everyone else had to (including me).
I visualized him telling me a joke about his morning that I didn't understand (but laughed at anyway), but then we ran into Akane.
She looked completely different.
Her long, navy-blue hair had been sliced off. Which was odd, because I distinctly remember my Onii-san (Ryoga) returning home with a few of his multiple bandanas in hand-- one of them with strands of hair the same color sticking to it like he had murdered someone.
"Akane..." Ranma muttered, seeming not to be as stunned as me (if stunned at all).
"Morning." she said, and took a place beside him.
I didn't like it. And not because it was ugly, too, but because it was a million times cuter than my thigh-length, puffy orange hair with the same tiger-striped bow on top like always.
Ranma nudged me out of my stupor. Silently, I turned my head my to meet his blue eyes.
"Guess you didn't see Akane-san's new hairdo, eh?" he asked blandly.
"No, I didn't." I mumbled, continuing along. With a little tear in my eye for a reason I didn't quite understand, I blurted out,
"Do you like it?"
Still facing me, he hesitated a glance at Akane, who was in her own little world, staring at every bump and crack and flower like it was her lover.
"... Yeah. It's, um... very... cute."
And thats when it hit me like a ton of boulders buried in an avalanche speeding down a hill at 1,000 miles per hour.
It was the hair. In my mind I screamed:
That's it! Not the eyes, not the body, the HAIR. Thats why he thinks she CUTE! Thats why he...!
Doesn't love me...
Moor tears swelled up.
"C-can you excuse me, Senpai?" I said with the same fake smile plastered across my face. Ranma stopped walking and held my chin.
"Yo, Sofie-chan. What's wrong, you twist your ankle?" he asked with soft eyes. Before water began rolling down my cheeks, I squinted and choked,
"I'm not feeling well...!"
I rushed in the opposite direction, thinking about nothing but scissors.

Heh-Heh. Sorry, that was stoopid. XP Should I make a second part? Because I kinda want to. =__=
