Sometimes the best recipe for culinary success is to experiment with creative ingredients. So says Joie Lenz (now Bethany Joy Galeotti) (Michelle, GUIDING LIGHT), who flavors healthy cooking with inspiration.
"My mom made this up. She decided to steam some vegetables and put them in a tortilla and see what happened. It became one of our favorites!" Lenz enthuses.
While grounded in her belief that wholesome foods are the best, Lenz also maintains that the best dishes are the ones that can be made practically in the blink of an eye.
"Totally honestly, this is a meal to be made by people who are `handicapped' in the kitchen," she declares. "This [dish] presents itself beautifully. And when I'm hungry, I don't want to wait for something to cook."
Although Lenz doesn't consider her cooking skills up to Martha Stewart's standards, she's content to "grill chicken breast or make grilled cheese." And she likes the fact that her regular diet allows her to polish off what she wants – almost always when she wants it.
"I'm on a program called `Fit For Life,'" the actress explains. "It gives me so much more energy. You eat fruit until noon, and then you wait half an our before eating anything else. You don't combine proteins and starches. You wait three hours after you eat [meat] to eat anything else. And you wait about two hours before you eat any other kind of protein. Also, you don't eat fruit for three hours after you eat anything. I'm still eathing everything I would be normally; it's just in a different order."
This health-conscious lifestyle doesn't mean she completely avoids treats, however. "TCBY white-chocolate mousse [frozen yogurt] with Butterfingers is sooo good," she sighs. "And my favorite junk food is an Almond Joy candy bar."
No pun intended, right Joie? "Not at all!" Lenz laughs.
Vegetable Tortillas (serves 1)
* 2 tortilla wraps, any flavor
* 2 cups fresh, julienne-cut vegetables (any combination of carrots, yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms, spinach, peppers or asparagus)
* Salad dressing of choice
1) Steam carrots for two minutes. Add any other vegetables and steam for an additional seven minutes.
2) Microwave tortillas on high for 15 seconds.
3) Spoon half of the vegetable mixture onto each tortilla.
4) Tightly wrap tortillas around vegetables.
5) Drizzle salad dressing on top of tortillas.

This pretty, fresh-faced teenager first lit up the screen under very unusual circumstances, Case as the teenage Reva clone Joie Lenz faced the impossible task of humanizing a fantastical character. With a mischievous gleam in her big brown eyes, Lenz nailed the immeasurable emotions expressed by a girl determined to unleash the woman within. GL Executives were so impressed with Lenz's short but memorable stay in Springfield that she was quickly signed as the new Michelle Bauer. Lenz has zapped Michelle with a much need does of spunk. Now that the creative spark is permanently on display, there no stopping this gifted young actress.

Then Tina told me something that I found truly shocking. "I'm really loving Guiding Light." But Tina, last year you told me you absolutely hated the clone story (moi too!), and had stopped watching the show.
"I did peek in every once in a while," she admitted, "and my 17-year-old daughter told me what was going on. Bravo to the killing of the clone. But what's really great about GL right now is Danny and Michelle."
"I love Danny and Michelle," swooned Ginny and Tina and some of the other women simultaneously.
"When Danny kisses Michelle, he really, really kisses her," cried Tina as the women swooned. "We just love Paul Anthony Stewart."

Since Joie Lenz (now Bethany Joy Galeotti) made a huge splash as teenage clone Reva this summer, we were hardly surprised when Guiding Light decided to put Lenz in the role of Michelle when Rebecca Budig left in the fall. But even we couldn't have predicted how quickly she'd get up to speed.
In only weeks she's made the role her own and then some. Suddenly, the used-to-be-too-good-to-be-true Michelle is now a spunkier rendition of the former incarnation, and we're delighted with the change. As an added bonus, Lenz can more than hold her own opposite daytime vet Paul Anthony Stewart, who recently signed on as Danny Santos. So where does this leave Michelle's longtime love, Jesse?
Probably caught in the middle of a four-way tug-of-war (don't forget about the ever-scheming Drew). And we can't wait to see who winds up with whom.
