Kaito sipped tea from his small, white porcelain cup that he had on his desk as he was finishing up a detailed report of a mission he'd went on recently. Underneath it he looked at a paper he'd asked their general Hirohito for titled "Request for Asylum Entry" with it filled out for Jeremiah Knobloch, who had been demoted two ranks down after a crippling injury because of his inability to form. He sighed out, signing his name at the bottom and seeing that Hannah's needed to be next to it. He gripped the pen a bit tighter, looking down at it and knowing how that conversation would go because in the past she'd disagreed greatly with the idea. Sometimes though you had to do the things required regardless of heart and as he went down to forge her signature he heard a knock at the door. "Come in."
In walked a fourteen yearold boy with long hair, tied in two ponytails. He was tall for his age, at Kaito's height and as wide as well. He wore blue samurai armor, having a blade at his side and a wakizashi at his back. With pearl colored eyes, the boy had an air of grace to him that disguised what he was- a servant of Hirohito who'd been raised since birth to be the most deadly warrior he possessed at his disposal. "Hello Mr. Kuhn, our heavenly sovereign Hirohito requests your presence on terms of business."
"'Business?" Kaito asked him before nodding his head. "I'll be on my way."
"I'm to escort you." Senji said with a smile. "I hope you understand."
"Of course." Kaito said before standing up, beginning to walk with Senji behind him. He walked out from the barracks, looking up at the sky a bit and noticing it was beginning to rain. "A bad omen." He said to himself before stopping. He was then bumped by Senji, telling him to keep moving so he did. When he reached the Imperial Compound he noticed that it was silent, with everyone in the usually bustling compound was inside. "What the fuck?" He asked himself as the gates closed behind him.
"To the throne room." Senji ordered, holding his hand on the hilt of his katana now.
Kaito looked back, holding his hand on his own hilt and wondering if he should just fight before sighing, continuing to walk to the grey building they used as the palace for the Japanese. Inside there was a red carpet leading to Hirohito's throne- it completely empty save for the artistic works and his throne, taken straight from Japan itself when they fled to Germany.
"Come towards me." Hirohito said to Kaito in an ominous voice, his wife Mei sitting next to him with her hands resting on the chair.
"Hirohito what is this?" Kaito asked him as he kneeled before Hirohito cackled a bit.
"Mei, please." Hirohito said as he simply laughed.
"My husband is most upset with you, Mr. Kuhn. We've extended you an olive branch into our beautiful compound. We allowed you to join the Japanese, to shield you from those that had only hurt you, the Europeans. We took you in, we took an outsider as one of us and yet you do not advance when there is an opening in your unit." Mei spoke out. "We are displeased. We considered sending a message in blood- perhaps in giving that Hannah woman an accident out on the field but Karhu, your emperor stopped me." She growled. "Explain yourself."
"My emperor and empress, I only stayed so that I may take on less work and focus on helping Hannah with hers!" Kaito said while sounding a slight bit panicked. "The lieutenant isn't truly important, these ranks are a joke! Ask anyone who is the second in command and they'd say me! I have been a faithful servant of the chrsysanthemum throne for years, having saved your lives from the beasts!" Kaito stood up in anger now, pulling out his katana and blocking a strike from Senji who swung at his back.
"Enough!" Hirohito screamed. "Senji you are dismissed- Kaito put that away!" He ordered, the two pausing and stopping with Senji leaving and Kaito looking at Hirohito. "Kaito, your actions are unwavering but your loyalty is questionable- who is it you serve?"
Kaito looked down before then looking at him. "You my lord, but this makes me question it. If you're willing to accuse me here, threaten me and those that I love then you're no lord that I'd serve!"
"No, it is those in my inner circle that distrust you and want to harm Kaito, such as my wife. I do but...you must prove to them if we truly are your people, Kaito." Hirohito spoke out. "I have a task that only you can complete. Hoenzollern Castle, Ancestral house of the Knoblochs possesses and artifact known as the gem of darkness- a single black ruby held in a silver locket. Use Jeremiah Knobloch, have him find it there and return it to me. Do this and I will name you a lord- a member of my most inner circle and you will crush all doubts of your loyalty."
Kaito looked down, breathing in before standing up and nodding his head. "Yes my lord, it will be done."
