Clive was allowed to go and hang out with Lilian at her house. After dinner, Lilian's aunt suggested "Why don't you two go relax in the living room while I clean the kitchen?" They did just that. Clive said, "Whenever you're ready, you can tell me why you started hurting yourself." Lilian said, "Okay. A few years ago, my parents and I went to my grandparents' house to spend Christmas. We were returning, and some crazy drivers raced each other and hit the car. It flipped several times. I survived with minor injuries, but my parents did not survive. I was sent to live with my aunt and uncle. I knew that I had love from my aunt and uncle, but getting everyone at my new school to like me was hard. I was bullied constantly, so to cope, I cut." Clive hugged her and said, "I'm so sorry you went through that, love." She said, "I still have to fight not to cut sometimes. The day Gideon moved away was one of those times I had to fight not to cut. Until you came along, he was the only person outside of the family who understood what I was going through." Opening up to Clive made Lilian feel better. She had someone to confide in. She could tell him all of her secrets, and he would not laugh or judge her. Things were starting to look up for her, but one day, she got a devastating phone call.
