Cristian "Hyuga" Medina
Cristian "Hyuga" Medina
First off, this is NOT an article I wanted to make. It really infuriates me how something like this can happen in such an innocent community, but hey, I'm just bringing this hear to spread the word and give my opinion the subject.

Basically, for those of you who have NO idea what's happening, a fellow and pretty Super Smash Bros player by the code-name of Hyuga, who is widely regarded as one of the best (if not the best) Toon Link players in the world on both Smash Bros Brawl and Smash Bros 4 in the entire world, was accused of sexually harassing a fellow Smash Bros player code-named VikkiKitty at EVO 2016, a BIG yearly gaming competition.

Eurogamer.net says this: "She said she and her boyfriend allowed Hyuga to stay in their hotel room because they didn't want him wandering around Vegas "drunk and alone".

VikkiKitty also later stated that she let him in because he was a friend, for the record.

Here's some information from VikkiKitty: ""I fell asleep next my boyfriend on the bed and I woke up to Cristian in between my boyfriend and I, rubbing against me and sliding his hands up my shirt and another down my pants.

"I'm Cuban and know a good amount of Spanish so I told him to leave me alone and to get back on the floor, repeatedly. He's drunk and doesn't get off me so I say it even LOUDER until someone in my room woke up to see what was going on.

"That person, Stefan, gets up and tells me immediately to sleep on the other bed where he was on and I changed beds. 15 minutes pass and I have still not fallen back asleep before Hyuga slides between the person I was on the bed with and tries to do it once again before Nick Riddle woke up and kicked him out of the room.

"Again, this has never happened to me and I was frightened so after they kicked him out I started to break down in tears. Did my 'friend' actually attempt doing this to me? Why wouldn't he leave me alone? What if I was alone? We filed a police report."

We'll be looking at both sides of the argument here, so nobody's opinion feels left out. I'll also try not to be too biased, as I did love Hyuga as a Smash Bros player. Sound good to you? Alrighty then.

Pro #1: Hyuga WAS intoxicated

Now I'm not saying this is really justified at all, as it's still his fault for drinking (and just drinking in of itself doesn't make you do crazy things unless you're REALLY hammered), so this argument is pretty invalid and is only really used as an "At Least..." argument.

Pro #2: He apologized heavily afterwards

This is honestly where I start feeling bad for Hyuga. He said he would take responsibility from hereon out and try to never drink at tournaments again, as shown in this image below:

Hyuga's Apology
Hyuga's Apology

Now this in of itself isn't bad, right? Well, if it's anything we've learned about the internet these days, it's that EVERYBODY has to be a complete douchebag.

Yeah, everyone went to Hyuga's Twitter and started spamming hate comments and death threats. Hell, the poor man even deleted his Twitter because of it, now THAT'S just cruel, to me.

Sure, he did something bad, but he took responsibility for his actions and apologized as much as he could. Like, put DOWN the fucking pitchforks, people.

Con #1: Being drunk doesn't excuse ANYTHING

Like I stated earlier, although there's no denying that being hammered can make you do some messed up shit, it still doesn't justify doing something of this length. Plus, he still made the choice to drink, so again, there's NO excuses.

Con #2: Do you have any idea how hammered you must be to go THIS against your morals?

Again, I don't know how drunk Hyuga was, but it's completely his fault for drinking that much at a goddamn GAMING COMPETITION. He really should've known better, and blaming it on the alcohol, once again, isn't a valid argument.

The Verdict

I think this story is a mix of deserved punishment and downright cruel hatred. Sure, I get the mild hate, the fact that VikkiKitty was scared and wanted to report this, and even the fact that VGBootCamp kicked him out of their sponsor, but the hate Hyuga got I feel is pretty undeserved, as death threats and mean insult after mean insult was too much for the poor man to handle.

So although I still kinda like Hyuga after all this, as some of it is understanding and deserved, it's still hard to forgive a crime of this level at such a massively populated area.
