This is a continuation of the last story but is set about four months after.

Joan woke with sunlight coming through the window, it was beautiful. She looked over and saw Sherlock's half of the bed was empty. She put on her dressing gown and went downstairs.

'Sherlock?' No one answered, he must be out. She picked her bag up off the table and checked her phone, there was a text from him.
Sorry i'm not there, Gregson needed a hand with a case. Make it up to you tonight. Love you.
She smiled then went into the kitchen to get some coffee. She went and sat down then she got a call from her mum.
'Hey mum. Didn't expect to hear from you.'
'I was just wanting to see how your getting on after that whole police business.'
'Mum, that was four months ago. What are you really calling about?.'
'I was wondering if you wanted to come to dinner tonight? You could bring Sherlock.'
'Um mm... I don't know. I'll ask him and i'll let you know.' Her mum stayed silent for a moment. 'Mum, it's not like i don't want to, it's just... He's a bit...'
'I understand, but your father would like to talk to him.'
'Mum, i'm not fourteen anymore. He can't interrogate my boyfriend.'
'I know but you know what he's like. So, call me later.'
'Sure. bye.' She hung up and shook her head, Her parents are so embarrassing. Then she heard the front door.
'Hello?.'
'In here.' Sherlock came in, kissed her then sat down next to her. 'How'd it go?.
'Good, Bell missed a piece of evidence which led me straight to the culprit. How he's a detective i'll never know.'
'Mum phoned. She wants us to go to dinner with her and the family.'
'Ok...'
'You don't want to.'
'I never said that.'
'You didn't have to.' She got up and went into the kitchen. He waited a minuet then followed her.
'I'm sorry. It's just... I know your parents don't approve of me, i mean who would? Their daughter is dating an ex-drug addict.'
'But they don't get to decide if we're together or not. That's our decision. I don't regret it. Do you?.'
'Of course not.'
'Then let's go tonight and show them that.' She went over and took his hand. 'I'm not ashamed of you.'
'You are amazing, you know that?.'
'You've told me once or twice.'

They arrived at the restaurant five minuets before her parents. She could tell Sherlock was nervous, she gave his hand a quick squeeze.
'Hey mum. Dad.' She gave each of them a hug. 'You remember Sherlock?.' He shook her fathers hand.
'Mr Watson.'
'Mr Holmes.' He took her mother's hand and kissed it.
'How are you. Mrs Watson?.'
'Fine thank you.' He went over and pulled out Joan's chair for her and kissed the top of her.
'Thanks.'
Thirty minuets in and everything was going well. Joan was surprised how well he got on with her dad. He was so interested in Sherlock's work. Joan excused herself to go to the toilet, her mother joined her. After a moment Sherlock went and sat next to her father.
'Mr Watson...'
'Call me Joe.'
'Joe, Can i ask you something?.'
'Sure.'
'I would like your permission.. To ask Joan to marry me.' Joe stayed quiet for a moment. 'I promise i will never put her through anything like the last four months ever again. I love her so much and if anything happened to her, i would never forgive myself. I understand if you say no and you have every right too, But you have to know that no one will ever love your daughter like i do.' Joe looked at him then smiled.
'You have my permission.'
'Thank you.' He shook his hand.
'As long as you keep your word.'
'I swear.' When the girls came back, Sherlock moved back to his seat.
'What were you two talking about?.'
'Our life choices.'

When they got home, Sherlock went into the kitchen and made them both some tea.
'That didn't go to bad.'
'I know, i thought my dad would be much harsher.'
'Must be my British charm.' He heard Joan giggle. He took the tea into the living room and handed Joan her cup.
'Thank you.' She took a sip. 'So good.'
'I won't be here in the morning. Gregson text me when you were in ladies room and he needs help on another unsolved case.'
'Ok. So early night?.'
'I suppose or we could...' She knew what he meant.
'Well, you said you'd make it up to me.'
