It's Complicated Chapter Forty Four
After dance class Troy and Ella went to go change. I sat my phone down beside me and slowly took out my hearing aides. Everyone had left so, I tried to dance like they did tonight. I even tried their ballerina moves at the bars. I wanted to attempt to dance like Ella. She was so graceful. But I want to dance like Troy; his dances were full of energy! They were amazing when you put them together. It would be cool to dance with them someday. But, I doubt that would ever happen.
I saw something out of the corner of my eye and looked over at Gloria waving her hand.
"Hi," I signed embarrassed.
"Have you ever danced before," she signed curiously.
"No, I have not," I signed as I put my hearing aides back in.
"That was very good. Have you ever had any type of cheerleading or gymnastics," Gloria asked by signing.
"Any what," I signed confused.
"Cheerleading or gymnastics," she finger spelled.
"No," I signed, "and please do not tell Troy and Ella!"
"Well, you look like you have had some sort of dancing background! Why not," she signed.
"Oh wow, thank you," I signed smiling, "it is embarrassing. I am deaf, I cannot dance!"
"Your welcome! What do you mean you cannot dance," Gloria asked signing, "you were doing a really good job!"
"I will not be able to hear the music I need to dance too," I signed.
"Lila, are you ready," Ella asked I looked over.
Ella must have said that rather loud, Gloria turned around like she was frightened.
"Yes," I said, "bye Gloria!"
"Bye Lila," she signed, "just think about telling them. It will do no harm!"
"Maybe," I signed.
"What were you two talking about," Ella asked as we walked out of the room.
"Dancing," I said.
"What about dancing," she asked curiously.
"Just deaf and dancing," I shrugged.
"Oh okay," she said.
"Where is Troy," I asked.
"He is right behind us," she said as I read her lips.
I looked behind me and Troy was following us.
"Hi Troy," I said as I waved to him.
"Who were you talking on the phone with for so long," he asked curiously.
"It was Jasper," I said.
"Ohh," he said laughing as I rolled my eyes.
I walked down the hall and we walked in silence which was kind of weird. Since we had been talking. I looked over at Ella and she was saying something but I could not hear her. I played with the volume on my hearing aide but nothing changed. I still could not hear anything.
"I think my hearing aides died," I texted them both.
I watched as they both got out their phones and read. They looked at me with a worried looks on their faces.
"What's wrong," I asked.
I wanted to see how was speaking when I could not hear myself. It was really odd.
"It will be hard to communicate," Troy texted back, "but good job with your talking!"
"Yeah I know and thank you," I said as I texted him back.
"What do we do about your hearing aides," Ella asked through a text.
"I do not know! I will call Jasper," I said through a text message.
I dialed Jasper's number and he thankful picked up rather quickly.
"Jasper, my hearing aides died," I signed scared, "what do I do?!"
"I do not know! Let me go to dad," He signed, "you will be okay!"
"Jasper, I cannot hear anything! This is scary," I signed, "I cannot hear the fire truck that just passed me!"
"Calm down, Lila! It is a little thing," he signed and kept signing something.
I felt as if I could bust into tears. I could understand hearing people or sign language. I started having a panic attack. I could not breathe and I was getting dizzy. I stopped were I was at and sat against the wall. I did not want to faint and Ella or Troy call 911. I would not be able to understand the paramedics and it would make me feel worse. I sat my phone down on the ground and concentrated on my breathing.
I got my breathing under control and looked over at Ella and Troy. Ella was holding my phone in front only my face as her lips moved. With Troy, Ella, and Carlisle's lips moving and Carlisle signing, it all most sent me back into a panic attack. Ella and Troy quickly took the phone away and I calmed myself down.
"I can't understand anything," I said scared.
I felt someone squeeze my hand and I let out a sigh of relief. This was scary for me. I had no way of communicating with Troy, Ella, or Carlisle and it was not fun. Not fun at all!
"I am okay now," I said.
We walked to Troy's car in silence. Or at least I did which I did not like at all.
Troy pulled into his drive way. I thought we were going to drop off Ella at he apartment. But I guess we were not going to.
"Are we not taking you to your apartment," I asked Ella through a text message.
"No, I want to stay the night over here so, you will not feel scared," she texted back.
"Thank you," I replied.
That was really sweet of her to that.
"How come at times you can hear and sign but, other times you cannot," Ella asked through a message.
"I get over whelmed on stuff that I know and that I do not know. I get scared and then I cannot breathe. Then I become dizzy," I texted her.
"Oh okay, well is there anything I can do to help prevent that from happening again," she asked as she sent me a message.
"No, not really. I just have to calm down," I said through a message.
Ella did not reply after that. We arrived at Troy's house and I went to the room I was staying in.
Jasper was calling me. I had no idea if I should pick up or not. I was really scared I would have another panic attack. That was not fun to deal with.
