Not Your Typical Country Girl Chapter Fourteen
Tucker had been gone for fifteen minutes. His mom had walked through the door and I was just sitting on the couch by myself. It was awkward.
"Tucker," his mom called out to him.
He came running down the stairs and into the living room without his shirt on. Which I found rather odd.
"Hey mom, you know Harmony, right," he asked, "Bryce and Abigail's new kid!"
"Oh yeah, it is nice to meet you, Harmony," the lady said, "I am Tucker's mom!"
"It is nice to meet you Mrs. Adkins," I said a little shy.
"Oh sweetie, call me Mary," she smile brightly.
"Okay," I said smiling back.
"Harmony, give men a few more minutes on gettin' ready," he said.
"Okay! But, you take a lot longer than I do," I said jokingly.
"I'll hurry it up," Tucker said as he ran back to his room.
"Would you like some sweet tea, Harmony," Mary asked.
"No thank you," I said.
"What are you and Tucker up to tonight," she asked very curiously.
"We are going to the bonfire," I said.
"Okay, you two have fun," she said as she left the room.
"Ready," Tucker asked.
"Yep," I said quickly.
We got back in the truck and is was still daylight. I do not know how this would work.
"How are we going to have a bonfire when it's still daylight," I asked.
"We will late till it is dark but, It is my turn to find firewood," he stated.
"Oh okay," I said.
"I didn't realize how shy you are! I'm really sorry," Tucker said.
"Oh it's fine," I stated, "I am so sorry for being that way! It's just a new town an all!"
"Harmony," he said dead serious, "you don't haveta apologize for being shy!"
"I just feel like I need to! Everyone is so friendly to me and I just can't do that," I stated.
"People in this town love having new folks in town," he said, "the newness will wear off!"
"Oh thanks," I said laughing, "I'm like a brand new toy!"
"I didn't mean to make it sound like that! But, now that ya put it that way," he said laughing with me, "are you excited about tue bonfire yet?!"
"Sorry but no," I said.
"Why not," he asked a little disappointed.
"Don't get me wrong, I like hanging out with you, it's just I'm worried about the people," I said shyly.
"Oh right! Please, do not mind them," he said, "they are just jealous of you!"
"I doubt that," I stated.
"They are, trust me," he said as he looked over at me.
"Okay, I will try," I said.
"Good! Let's go get some firewood," he said, "well, you can help spot it! You prolly don't wanna get all dirty!"
"Em, I wouldn't mind if I had a another pair of clothes but, I don't. But, oh well," I said, "I will help!"
"You really don't haveta," Tucker said.
"Well I am," I said, "to make you somewhat happy, I will grab the small sticks!"
"That'll do," he smiling.
"That what," I asked confused.
"That'll do," he said again.
"You're language is weird," I stated.
"You speak it too! You ain't use to it though," he said.
"I guess so," I agreed.
We jumped out of the truck and I followed Tucker into the woods.
"I sure am glad you wore some combat boots," he said, "they will protect your feet and legs from the thorn bushes."
"Oh yeah! And don't forget that they are stylish too," I said laughing.
"Oh you know it," he said laughing with me.
"You're crazy," I stated.
Tucker and I walked through the woods just enjoying each others' company. It wasn't boring at all, it was actually kind of relaxing.
"This is nice, isn't," he asked.
"I was just thinking the same thing," I said laughing a tiny bit, "how do you know where we are in here? How do you know we aren't lost?!"
"I know these woods like the back of my hand," he said.
"Okay," I said.
We gather the amount of wood that we needed to and went back to the truck. We put it in the bed of the truck and then we got into the truck. Tucker drove us to the bonfire grounds. I didn't help unload it the firewood because boys were grabbing it left and right. No one would allow me to do anything. So, I stood right beside the truck and waited on Tucker to finish. I sure was wishing I had my drawing book. It felt odd to be without it, like it wasn't right to be without it.
"Come on, Harmony," Tucker said as he pulled me lightly by the wrist.
"I'mma comin'," I said as my accent slipped.
"What'd you just say," Tucker said smiling.
"I said I was coming," I stated.
"No you didn't! You really have a thick southern accent," he said almost happy.
"So; why are you so happy," I asked confused.
"I was startin' to think you would never use it again," he said.
"I'm trying," I mumbled.
"Lets go watch the sunset," he said, "are ya comin' Dustin and Sam?"
"Sure, why not," Dustin said.
We got into Dustin's truck and we started riding through the field.
"When's the last time you have seen a sunset," Tucker asked.
"Last night," I said trying not to laugh.
"No, where you sit down and you watch it till it disappears," he stated.
"In that case, never," I said.
"You're in for a treat," Samantha said as she looked over her shoulder.
We jump out of truck and Tucker and I sat on the toolbox of Dustin's truck. While him and Samantha sat in the tail gate. They sure are a cute couple.
"Man, God has created one beautiful sunset tonight," Dustin said, "Just as he created you, Sammie!"
I started thinking about it really hard. How did I end up here on this earth? Why was I put in the situation that I am in? Who could have created everything? From the trees to the streaks of pink, red, and orange in sky, who made this? Surely, it didn't just come from nothing! There has to be some logical explanation!
