Just two weeks. I could do that. It would be easy. Time would pass easily.
Sam grabbed the blankets and I grabbed the rest of the stuff. We walked home in silence. Partly because I was so tired.
I got home took a shower, put on fresh pajamas and went to sleep.
Mattie wake up, you have slept the day away. Sam said.
I don't want to. I complained.
Get up, you can't sleep all day. He said.
Fine. I'm getting up. I said.
Good. He smiled as he popped in my room.
What am I going to do for two weeks? I asked.
Don't know. He said.
That help a lot. I said.
It was 1 o'clock in the afternoon. I couldn't believe I slept that long. Even if I stayed up till 6 in the morning.
I only had a couple of hours to kill until I had to go to sleep. Because I had school in the morning.
It was a boring day and I was thankful that I would have something to do tomorrow.
I got up and went school because if I missed one more day and I wasn't sick than I would expelled. I was being nice to all the teachers and principle. I did whatever they needed to do. That included missing some kind of school function in the auditorium. I think they were having some kind of contest or something. Big deal, I didn't care anything about it.
By the time I got done doing stuff for my English teacher it was lunch time. Thankfully Paul gave me my lunch money before lunch.
A boy, I think his name was Rick, came walking through the lunch room. He had yellow paint and feathers all over. It was really funny. He looked nervous for some reason. Rick was hugging his backpack so tight. Like if he dropped the bag it would be a disaster. I grabbed my food and sat down at an empty table. Jake came over and sat down with me.
What happen to Rick? I asked.
Someone rigged up a bucket of paint and feather. They dropped it on him after they won. He said.
Oh that's funny. I said.
Yeah it is. Jake said.
We sat quietly and ate lunch. I watched Rick go talk to someone. He stuck his hand in his backpack and started to pull something out of it. It sort of looked like a gun but it couldn't have been. I doubt it, where would he get a gun?
The bell rang and I got up to go to my locker.
I saw Rick talking to Jacob. Rick's hand slid in his backpack. I had this bad feeling that he really had a gun. It's the only reason why he was back at school today. Something that embarrassing had to have consequences. Except he was going to shoot the wrong person. He shouldn't shoot anyone. I had to stop him!
I ran up to Jacob acting like I was crying. I wrapped my arms around Jake's neck.
Jacob I need to talk to you. I cried.
I was crying real tears because I was scared to death of what might happen.
What's wrong? Jacob asked.
Just we need to talk some where alone. I said.
I unwrapped my arms from Jacob's neck and wrapped them around his waist.
You two aren't going anywhere! Rick said.
I heard him pull out his gun.
