We all know TVD is not one of those teen drama shows. Yes, you have people who are still in HS, and who sometimes, act like kids. But you also have 160 year old vampires who are not your typical every day guys.
TVD is not One Tree Hill, or Gossip Girl, or Dawson's Creek. Stefan would never cheat on Elena, and if she ever leaves him, he's not going to turn to the first girl that smiles to him. The great tragedy of his character is that he's this amazing guy who has a lot to offer and every girl would be lucky to have him (vampire or not), but he has eyes for only one girl, Elena. Even if she leaves him for some other guy, even if she dies, he's not going to stop loving her. She's his one and his only, and he's going to spend the eternity in love with her - with her by his side or not.
I hate when people compare tv shows to the slightest detail, because I truly believe every tv show is special, even if it does have so many similarities to some other show. But I see TVD often being compared to BtVS, mostly because of Stefan/Elena/Damon and Angel/Buffy/Spike. I love BtVS, and it'll always be my favorite show. Although, those two shows are very different.. from the beginning BtVS was about Buffy, and Angel was a supporting actor, and his character really wasn't developed until he got his own show. He was Buffy's boyfriend. From the start, TVD was different.. to us, it wasn't represented as a story about Elena Gilbert, but as a love story between Stefan and Elena, their friends and family who we came to love or hate. Although the shows are different, there are some similarities between Bangel and Stelena. But every great love has similarities. Angel left Buffy, so she can start her life, so he can start his, so they can grow up and figure out what are they supposed to do.. so they can fall in love all over again, and maybe in the end, go back to each other. But like said, from the beginning, the show was about Buffy.. their love was a big part of the show, but not the most important one. TVD.. is different. Elena and Stefan are leading characters, and we can't imagine the show without them. To be honest, I can't imagine the show without any of the characters, but that's a different story. So, I guess, my question is, is there a TVD without Stelena? Or is there a TVD with Delena? Because like I said, Angel left so both him and Buffy can move on with their lives.. because if he stayed, I really don't believe Buffy could ever find someone else to love, and I know he wouldn't either. She wouldn't be able to look him in the eyes and tell him she's in love with someone else.. same goes for him. But the question is.. can Elena? Can she bring Stefan home and tell him that it's over? Because if she's going to do that, she can leave him with Klaus, because he'll feel like dying if he hears those words coming from her mouth. Can there be Delena with Stefan around? IMO, that would be completely out of character. For Stefan, if he ends up being "ok" with the situation, because we all know he can't be "ok" while Elena is with someone else, nevertheless his brother, and I don't want to watch him whine and lurk in the shadows for the time Delena is on. For Elena, because she said so many things to Stefan that made both us, him and her think she's really going to love him forever, is she really going to throw that in the wind? And for Damon, who's supposed to be this new hero on the road of redemption.. would be moral and right move to be with Elena when he knows Stefan is always going to be in love with her, and that one part of Elena will always love Stefan?
For me, this show was never about Elena choosing Stefan or Damon. For me, this show is about Stelena love story, about the relationship between Stefan and Damon, about Stefan finally loving woman with his whole heart and soul but not ending up disappointed, about Elena and her act of heroism, about Damon finally realizing he can be happy without making others feel miserable, and about all the other characters and their stories.
