The colorful room was filled with silence. They were sitting on the mattresses on the floor. Olivia had a bad feeling about this helicopter. Somehow she wasn’t sure this was going to end so well. As calm as she was before, she was nervous now. It had been almost fifteen minutes since the last phone call, and he wouldn’t let her call again.
She was deep in thoughts when the phone rang again. Paul picked up the phone. She couldn’t hear what Elliot was saying.
‘Ok, we’ll be there in ten minutes. And no tricks, or your partner isn’t going to make it out ok.’
She felt a chill over her back as he said those words.
Elliot was nervous. He kept walking around, asking how long it was going to be before the helicopter arrived and checking if everyone on the roof was in position. When he heard the first signs of the helicopter he got even more nervous. He wanted this all to be over as soon as possible.
Cragen gave the sign, and they all went up the roof, using the fire stairs. Elliot’s heart was pounding. He knew they could come out any moment now, but the minutes seemed like hours. Finally the doors opened and there they were. He was holding Olivia before him, his gun at the side of her forehead. He looked in her eyes and it seemed like he forgot everything around them. She looked scared but calm.
They were slowly walking towards the helicopter. This was the critical moment. He was supposed to let Olivia go and get into the helicopter. As soon as she would be safe they would arrest him. Any second now.
‘Just let me go and get in the helicopter.’
‘Not so fast, I know what they’re trying to do.’
He was now standing next to the helicopter. He finally let Olivia go and she walked away fast, but she tried not to run. At that moment Paul saw the police officers behind the helicopter and he noticed there was no pilot on board. He realized it was all a trap.
Elliot saw him turn around. He saw him point his gun. At that moment he froze. He knew what was going to happen, and he had no time to stop him. Then he heard the sound he didn’t want to hear.
It took Olivia a few second to realize what had just happened. She looked down and saw her own blood. She fell down and she heard another gunshot, and people shouting.
Elliot ran towards her, panicked.
‘Liv, o my god! Liv!’
He saw blood coming out of her shoulder and abdomen. He took off his jacket and used it to apply pressure on the wounds.
‘The paramedics are on their way up, hang in there, Liv!’
‘It’s ok, Elliot, it’s ok.’
‘No damn it! It’s not ok! Stay with me!’
She put her hand on his.
‘Really, it’s ok.’
‘No, don’t do this! Don’t give up now. You cannot die! You hear me? I need you Olivia!
I love you!’
She tried to say something, but she passed out before she could.
‘No, please, stay with me!’
The paramedics finally arrived and put her on a gurney.
‘We have to get her downstairs first.’ One of them said.
‘Wait! Can’t you use the helicopter? That way it’s faster, right?’
They all looked at Elliot.
‘I’ll go check with the pilot.’ One of them ran off.
‘It’s ok, he can take us!’
Elliot ran downstairs.
‘The hospital! I have to get to the hospital!’
‘You’re not driving like this, I’ll take you.’ Cragen got into his car and Elliot followed. Fifteen minutes later they got there.
It took them a while to find a doctor who could tell them more about Olivia.
‘She’s in surgery now. The bullet in her shoulder went through. It’s the one in her abdomen we’re most concerned about. It may have hit her liver, and she could be bleeding internally. We’ll know more when she gets out of surgery.’
Two hours went by. Cragen went to get a cup of coffee, but Elliot couldn’t drink anything. All he could think about was Olivia. He couldn’t stand the thought of losing her. He couldn’t do his job without her. He couldn’t live without her. Finally a man in green scrubs came through the door he had been staring at all this time.
‘How is she? Is she going to be ok?’
‘She had a massive internal bleeding in her abdomen, and it took us long to find the bullet. Fortunately we were able to stop the bleeding, so she’s ok for now. Good thing they brought her in by chopper, otherwise I’m not so sure she would have made it. She’s in recovery now, but it could take her a while to wake up.’
He sat by her bed and looked at her face. She seemed so peaceful. Cragen had gone back to the precinct.
She opened her eyes.
‘Elliot?’
‘Liv! Thank god you’re awake. You’re going to be fine.’
‘Did you get him?’
‘Yes, we did, they had to shoot him in his leg, so he’s going to prison crippled. You were really great in there. You saved all these kids!’
‘Elliot,’ She looked him in the eyes.
‘Yes?’
‘What you said to me on that rooftop, after I got shot,’
‘You remember that?’ He looked surprised.
‘Yes, I do. Elliot, did you mean that?’
He looked at the floor.
‘Yes, I did.’
She smiled.
‘Good, I was hoping you did..’
