Chapter 1 ; This is how the story went
It was a sunny morning on campus in an university in Washington DC. Katherine Fray woke up to hear her roommate, Audrey Hart, type something really fast on the computer. She was also being very loud.
"What are you doing?" Katherine yawned. She was a 22-year old college student with dark brown hair and freckles on her face. Her good friend, Audrey, was in many ways quite the opposite. Though she was also 22-years old, and a college student, she had blonde hair and had bright blue eyes.
"Sorry, I have a paper due today", she said without turning to look at Katherine. "And I need it done."
"I told you to finish your papers in time. But no, what did you want to do? You wanted to go to a party", Katherine yawned, laying back down on the bed.
"Hey, it's not my fault I get invited to parties", Audrey reminded. "I think you're just bitter."
"For what reason?" Katherine sighed.
"Because you weren't invited."
"I was there", Katherine pointed out as she got up.
"Exactly. As my plus one", Audrey groaned. "You know, never mind, we'll argue later. Let me just finish this and then we can go to lunch."
"Yay", Katherine muttered, heading for the bathroom.
Katherine grabbed her toothbrush and began to brush her teeth, "So A can we have a chill night today and just hang out at the apartment and watch some stupid movie?" Katherine asked hopefully. Katherine wasn't too big on friends. She liked to be by herself, but over the years she'd actually grown close to her roommate Audrey, and Audrey would constantly involve her in all of her plans so Katherine knew that whatever Audrey had planned tonight would somehow involve her.
"Sorry, girl, but I have a shift at the bar tonight, you should come." Audrey said looking at her roommate hopefully.
"Ew, I hate the bar you work at it. It's gross" Katherine said shuddering.
Audrey rolled her eyes, "Please, it is not that bad. Besides I need that job to pay for college, not all of us have scholarships you know?" Audrey said teasing her roommate.
"Well you did have a scholarship." Katherine said pointedly.
Audrey rolled her eyes. In high school Audrey wasn't too focused on grades, her mom died when she was 13 and her father was constantly working and trying to provide for her and her little sister so most of her high school years were spent watching after her sister and when she wasn't watching her sister she was out partying or doing something crazy she wasn't supposed to do. Audrey had gotten into Trinity Washington University through a soccer scholarship, but after playing on the team for a year she realized she had not passion for soccer anymore, and it was taking time away from her real goal, being a journalist . So she had dropped her scholarship and took up a job as a bartender in the local bar, Silver Diamonds, to help pay for her tuition.
"Audrey, I don't like going to the bar. I'm not a social person. And in case you have not noticed, the social crowd does not like me, either", Katherine said.
"Then they're stupid", Audrey smiled.
"No", Katherine shook her head. "You can go alone or with someone else."
"Katherine, pleeeassseee", Audrey made her puppy face which always got Katherine to say yes. "Please please please. We'll make you all pretty and then everyone'll love you."
Katherine rolled her eyes. "As if that's possible. I can't. I promised Michael I'd come and visit."
"You can bring your hottie brother with you", Audrey said.
"Don't call him a hottie", Katherine said.
"PLEASE KATHERINE!" Audrey shouted.
"Fine", Katherine said after a moment. "Fine, fine. But dude, finish your stupid paper."
"I will. I love you", Audrey chuckled, leaning over her computer again.
Katherine sighed, heading back to the bathroom. She did have a scholarship. She was in medical school on her way to becoming a doctor, a trauma surgeon, to be exact. She'd lost her parents in a plane crash when she was 10 years old, and her big brother Michael had raised her. He was 8 years older than her.
"Done!" Audrey announced after a few minutes. "Ready to go get some breakfast?"
Katherine nodded, putting a jacket over her pajama. It wasn't really all that unsual for the students to walk around in their pajamas for breakfast.
"Katy, are you sure you want to hang out at a bar tonight? I know it's not really your thing..." Katherine's older brother Michael questioned her as they stepped into the bar.
Katherine sighed, "One..do NOT call me Katy and two, yes...I promised Audrey I would come down tonight."
Michael smiled, "Okay fine since you promised Audrey I guess we'll stay, and I will never stop calling you Katy, but if you want I can go back to calling you sticky face like when we were kids."
"Dude shut up" Katherine muttered. "Come on lets go to the bar and find Audrey."
Michael and Katherine were walking to the bar when they saw a very pissed off Audrey having a man's hand in a very tight grip. "Listen to me jack ass!" she said screaming, "The next time you try to grab my ass I will chop your hand off, punch you in the jaw, and then destroy your man hood! Understood?" she demanded.
"Okay okay!" the man said hurriedly, "Just let go of me already." Audrey let go of his hand glaring and the man ran out of the bar.
"Idiot" Audrey muttered under her breath and began to mix drinks.
"Hey girl" Katherine said laughing and walking up to Audrey, "what was that all about?"
"Oh you know, just because there's a girl bartender guys think they can do anything with her. Too bad they don't know that I know kick boxing and can destroy them in two seconds."
Katherine laughed, "If you ever need to borrow my gun, feel free to do so." she said jokingly.
"Well..." Audrey started.
Katherine suddenly got serious, "Okay that was a joke! Come near my gun and---"
Audrey interrupted her, "Calm down, I won't touch your precious gun." She then turned to Michael, "What's up handsome" she said winking at him. "What can I get you, for you it's all on the house."
Michael smiled and leaned down towards Audrey, "Well since a pretty girl like you offered---"
"Ew, stop." Katherine said disgusted.
Michael smirked and stepped back. "Relax, Katy."
"Yeah, it's not your fault that your best friend and your brother are both seriously hot", Audrey chuckled.
Katherine sighed. She was feeling so left out. Not that she was ugly either or anything, she just didn't really know how to express it like Audrey did.
"So, how's school going?" Michael asked.
"Fine", Katherine said. "Can I get a scotch?"
"Yay, she's on the drinking mood", Audrey said as she poured her friend a drink. "Yeah, school's going fine. I just wish it wouldn't take up so much of my time."
"Such precious time", Katherine said with a sarcastic tone as she took a sip of her drink.
Audrey looked around the bar. "No hot guys around yet. We shall wait. I mean, except you, of course, Michael. I hope you'll excuse me. This time I'm searching for little Katy here."
"I do not need you to find a guy for me", Katherine said firmly. "I'm not the kind of girl who needs a boyfriend."
"No, but every girl your age needs to get laid at least once a year", Audrey muttered.
Michael's eyes widened. "This I do not want to talk about."
"I agree", Katherine said.
"How's Kelly, by the way?" Michael asked Audrey, meaning her little sister.
"She's fine, almost a grown up now. Oh, how time flies by quickly", Audrey smiled.
"But when I'm around you two, it seems to go very slowly", Katherine muttered, taking another sip.
"You're so depressing." Audrey said rolling her eyes.
Michael smiled, "So how old is Kelly now?"
Audrey smiled, "The little munchkin is 16, she's actually coming over this weekend to spend some time with me!"
"Cool" Michael exclaimed. "Maybe I'll stop by to say hi, I haven't seen the little girl in forever."
"OMG!" Audrey suddenly screamed. "Okay, Katherine don't look now but that slut, Lucy from English class is totally walking towards us right now. "
"Audrey!" Katherine hissed, "Can you be any more louder!?"
"HEY KATHERINE DON'T LOOK NOW BUT THAT SLUT L----" Audrey began to scream to torture her best friend when Katherine jumped up and covered her mouth.
"Stop it!" she hissed
Lucy walked up to the both of them and smiled, "Hey Audrey, Katherine, how are you guys" she said smiling.
"Awww Katherine look, it knows how to speak!" Audrey said with fake niceness in her tone.
Katherine rolled her eyes, her and Lucy used to be best friends back in high school, but when they came to college Lucy had completely changed. And the friendship ender for her was when Lucy had slept with her first college boyfriend Jerry, because she was bored and drunk at a party. Audrey just hated her because, well Audrey hated a lot of people.
Katherine looked at Lucy, "What do you want?" she asked annoyed.
"Katherine please, I just saw Michael here and knew that I couldn't just walk away without saying hi to him!" she said lightly touching Michael's arm. Michael pushed her hand off his arm and threw down his drink. He then gave her a glare and muttered something about the bathroom and walked away. "What the hell is his problem?"
"Really, dumbass? Do I need to spell it out for you" Audrey said.
"Audrey if I wanted a bitch, I would have just went to the pet shop and bought a dog...instead of coming here to a bar, where you're supposed to be serving me."
"Know what, I would slap you...but that would just be animal abuse!" Audrey said getting really close to Lucy.
"Well, whatever."
"Great comeback, genius" Audrey muttered.
Katherine sighed and rolled her eyes, " A, shouldn't you be working?"
"Yeah", Audrey said. She stepped back a little heading back to the other side of the bar.
"Just go away Lucy. You're not wanted here", Katherine said.
"At least I'm wanted somewhere", Lucy said with a bitchy tone, but before Katherine had time to say anything, she'd disappeared into the crowd.
Audrey sighed. "Don't listen to her.
"Yeah, yeah", Katherine muttered. "Can I get another drink?"
Audrey nodded, pouring the drink for her friend.
"And you wonder why I don't want to come to bars with you", Katherine smiled sadly.
"Hey", they suddenly both turned around to see some random, semi-good-looking guy smiling at them. Or, well, Audrey.
"Hi", Audrey gave him a charming smile. "What can I get you?"
"A beer would be nice", the guy said.
"Sure", Audrey said, getting the beer for him.
"So, you come here often?" the guy asked, taking the beer.
"Uh, I work here. But my friend here, Katherine, she comes here sometimes", Audrey said, trying to turn the attention to Katherine, but she refused to be a part of the conversation.
The guy gave Katherine one look before turning to Audrey. "So you're a bartender?"
"Go away, dude. These girls are not interested", Michael was back, and the guy had no choice but to walk away.
"Thanks", Audrey smirked. "I hate desperate guys like that."
Katherine laid her head on the table.
"You ok, Katy?" Michael asked.
"I'm fine, I'm fine", Katherine said, sitting back up. "I should probably go soon. Once Upon a Time is on tonight, like in.. 10 minutes."
"You can watch it online tomorrow", Audrey said impatiently. "Go ask some guy to dance."
Katherine let out a laugh. "Yeah, no. I'd rather go watch whether Emma has forgiven Neal yet."
"You know, this might be why you don't have a boyfriend", Audrey said with a charming smile on her face.
"Possibly", Katherine smiled.
"So Audrey when do you get off?" Michael asked.
"In about like 10 minutes." she said smiling.
"Great, then I'm taking you both out to dinner!"
Katherine got up, "Oh no Michael you do not have to do that!"
"Dude shut up and sit down" Audrey said rolling her eyes at Katherine, "I am tired of eating Top Ramen every single day. I could use some real food. WE would LOVE to go to dinner with you!" Audrey said smiling at Michael.
Michael laughed, "Come on Katy, let a big brother, spoil his little sister."
Katherine groaned, "FINE. Let's go to dinner."
After Audrey's shift had ended the three of them walked over to a nearby restaurant and sat down at the table to eat.
"So Audrey, the fire that broke out in the factory the other day, did you get to cover it?" Michael asked.
"Dude, I wish. I'm just a student remember? But it would have been awesome, if I could cover it."
"It would have been dangerous." Katherine remarked.
"Well good thing my best friend/Roommate is a surgeon!" Audrey said smiling and elbowing Katherine.
"Is GOING to be a surgeon! I'm not a surgeon yet."
"But you will be, soon", Michael smiled.
"So, how are you doing with that hotter than hot job as an agent?" Audrey asked Michael. He was an FBI agent.
"It's going good. Got a few rough cases, but I've got it covered", Michael nodded.
"That is so hot", Audrey announced. "Isn't it hot your brother's an FBI agent?"
"Yeah, it's super hot", Katherine said plainly. She was staring at the pizza the waitress had just brought over. "Once Upon a Time's almost over by now."
"Oh, for the love of God.. You'll watch it tomorrow online", Audrey groaned. "Or you'll go to the internet and read all the spoilers about it."
Katherine groaned.
"Hey, you know what you could try, sis? Smiling", Michael chuckled.
Katherine made an awful face which could in some universe indicate a smile.
"Yeah, that's.. charming", Audrey chuckled.
"So, you girls seeing any special boys?" Michael asked as he took a bite of his food.
"Not at the moment. I've gone on a few dates but it's not anything serious", Audrey said.
"Not anything serious?" Katherine chuckled. "Judging by the flowers the guys keep sending you, they think it's pretty serious."
"Nah, they're just looking to get laid", Audrey said.
"I liked that one, what was his name.. Matt, the guy who gave me the cupcake he was gonna give you when you weren't home", Katherine said.
"See? You can have him", Audrey smirked.
"I don't want your leftovers."
Audrey sighed, exchanged looks with Michael and then nodded. "Fine, fine."
The conversation went null for ten minutes, when Audrey finally spoke up, "So...do you want to go to kickboxing classes with me tomorrow?"
Katherine looked up at her, "Na...."
Audrey shrugged her shoulders, she was done arguing with Katherine. "Well, let's go home then, this dinner has officially become boring."
"It was boring to begin with" stated Katherine.
Michael rolled his eyes, "Gee thanks, come one I'll drop you two home."
Michael took the girls home, said his goodbyes and left. Audrey grabbed some ice cream and flipped on the TV. "Awesome! Fast and Furious is playing! This movies epic Katy, you gotta watch it!"
Katherine shrugged her shoulders, "Sure, whatever." she said grabbing a bowl of popcorn and sitting down next to her roommate. After a couple of minutes of watching the movie Katherine turned towards Audrey, "So A, why don't you have a boyfriend?"
Audrey looked over at her confused, "I told you, none of the guys I date are serious, they just wanna be laid."
Katherine shook her head no, "No, some of them really like you and are good guys..."
"Where are you going with this Katherine Fray?"
Katherine gave Audrey a "give up" look.
"UGH" Audrey said annoyed, "Fine, maybe I don't like getting into serious relationships because commitments are boring."
Katherine gave Audrey a look, "Boring?"
"Yeah boring, loser dumb bitch. Watch the movie and stop distracting me." Audrey said throwing a pillow at Katherine.
Katherine threw the pillow back, "Dude, you always get on my back about how I never have a boyfriend----"
"Correction," Audrey said interrupting her, " I always get on your back for not meeting guys in general, this has nothing to do with a boyfriend."
"Uh huh," Katherine said continuing, "the point is your just as scared as me when it comes to getting serious."
"No," Audrey said denying it all, "I'm twenty two. I don't want to settle down and have a serious boy friend at twenty two...I repeat...boring. And I hate you. Go away. You can no longer watch the epicness of Fast and Furious with me."
Katherine laughed, "Okay, okay I'm sorry."
"You should be!"
"Whatever, can we just watch your epic movie now?"
"DUH!"
The girls sat there the rest of the night watching the movie.
