Told by the voice of reason - Ted Remus Lupin
The full moon was horrible...the worst night so far. McGonagall had told me to hide in the Shrinking Shack and so I did. The Shrieking Shack is a kind of house on the outsides of Hogwarts, near Hogsmade. You get there when you travel by the tunnel that is under the Whomping Willow, which is a magical tree on the grounds of Hogwarts. The Whomping Willow had been planted when my father had entered school, since he too was a werewolf.
Anyways, inside the Shrieking Shack there wasnt much to do for a werewolf. Madam Pomfrey had gave me some meat to eat but that was it. And once turned into a wolf all I wanted to do was escape that place, be free and chase after the full moon. Since I couldnt get out, all I could do was hurt myself...
Once the moon was out, Madam Pomfrey had come to get me with McGonagall and Proffesor Burdock. I was weak, my whole body ache and I couldnt hold on I fainted.
But it wasnt the worst...the worst was when I finally woke up (2 days later) and James, Fred and Emma were staring at me.
"Ted!" cried Emma "you're awake"
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked looking at them, completely ignoring Emma
"Looking for you" said James in a matter-of-fact tone
"You passed out for 2 days dude" said Fred
"How did you guys knew I was here?"
"We were looking for Emma when McGonagall, Madam Pomfrey and Proffesor Burdock came inside the hospital wing with you early in the morning" explained James
"You were messed up dude" commented Fred "you still are...."
"I woke up yesterday morning" Emma said "later in the afternoon I was able to leave and I saw you lying down"
"and you stayed? all night?" I asked noticing it was around 5 in the morning, too early for them to come visit
"obviously!" said Fred rolling his eyes
"Teddy, what happened?" asked Emma worried "How did you got so seriously injured?"
"You told us you were going to visit your Gran" said Fred "how could you get so injured in there?"
"I was attacked...by dogs" I said the first thing that came into my mind
"attacked by dogs?" asked James raising an eyebrow
"yeah...the neighbor had this 2 dogs and since they had never seen me, they saw me as an stranger and attacked me"
"and...couldnt you use magic to deffend yourself?"
"No magic is allowed outside Hogwarts" I reminded them "and even if I could, I wouldnt...my Gran lives in a muggle neighborhood"
"but...you were unconciouse for 2 days!" exclaimed Emma "thats not normal"
"yeah well...I'm fine" I said trying to finish with this conversation "Nothing to worry about"
Weeks passed and none of them talked more about the topic, but I knew they were suspecting something was wrong since the next month the same happened...and the next one to that.
I kept telling them I got injured by some kind of animal or that I was on a car accident or that I fall off my broom playing quidditch with some friends.
I hated lying to them...it was wrong, yes, but I couldnt tell them the truth. They would never talk to me again if they knew I am a werewolf...they would be afraid of me, that I knew for sure! Why? well...'cause they said so one night when we had cought ourselves in detention with Hagrid.
"how did 'ou four got yourselve' into detention?" asked Hagrid as we entered his house
"McGonagall didnt liked out little prank" said James shrugging
"little prank?" asked Hagrid "wha' you did to 'ood old Minerva?"
"not to her" said Fred "to the Slytherins"
"wha' you did to 'em?"
"well...we let some gas bombs explote on their quidditch practice" said Fred
"gas bombs? products 'rom Weasley 'izard 'eez, arent 'ey?"
"yep! my father gave them to me before I left to the Hogwarts Express" said Fred with a grin "told me to be the next Hogwart's nightmare"
"Geo'ge never changes I 'ee" said Hagrid shaking his head "he and 'is twin were always bo'ering and 'oing pranks on 'eir school days"
"I know!" said Fred excited
"well... I 'ee you four are not be'ind" he said nodding to the rest "but I'm 'urprised to 'ee Emma and 'ed here"
"We're a group" said James "the four of us had to be on the prank"
"They needed someone who had the Slytherin schedule" said Emma shrugging
"and a master mind to activate the bombs at the same time" I added
"I 'ee" said Hagrid nodding "very 'ell...should we go?"
Hagrid lead us outside his house and then he started to walk to the forbiden forest, we following close behind.
"Hagrid...where are we going?" asked Emma
"to the 'orbiden 'orest" answered Hagrid
"but its the middle of the night!" exclaimed Fred with wide eyes "isnt it dangerouse"
"only if you 'ook for 'oubles"
"but....arent there giant spiders?" asked James "my father once told me he and her best friend, Ron, found the nest!"
"They are named Acromantulas James, and they are not exactly killers" I corrected "only if you annoy them or if they find themselves in danger"
"Exactly!" excalimed Hagrid "e got a smar' boy he'e"
"thanks...I read it in a book" I said
"anyways" continued James "there are many creatures more!"
"like centaures and gigants!" said Emma
"Igants don' live he'e anymore" said Hagrid
"centaures do" murmured Emma
"'ey won' hur' you"
"what about other creatures?" asked Fred looking between the trees that closed around us "there are were-wolves!"
When Fred said that Hagrid's eyes turned to me for a second before moving away and back to the front. I looked away and said nothing.
"oh! Were-wolves are horrible!" exclaimed Emma
"and dangerouse!" added James
"'Ey are no' 'at bad" said Hagrid
"they are!" exclaimed Fred "they kill people...and if they bite you, they turn you into one"
"oh I wish we didnt have to study them" sighed Emma "we learn about them on our third year"
"you know were-wol'es are jus' 'umans on the inside" said Hagrid "'ey don' control 'emselves once 'ey turn into one"
I was greatful with Hagrid from trying to protect the were-wolves...really, what they were saying was actually hurting me. They hated were-wolves...they thought of them as dark creatures.
"well...yeah, but arent they like different from people?" asked Fred "dont they act different?"
"What do you think about it,Teddy" asked Emma
"I think were-wolves are just misunderstood" I replied quietly "they are bad when they're wolf...but when human, I dont think they're bad"
"'ed is righ'" agreed Hagrid "Some people don' even no'ice 'ey are talking to were-wolves"
"oh I know about that...my father once told me his DADA proffesor in his third year was a were-wolf!" said James
"oh, My father said the same...he was helping him in his O.W.Ls" said Fred
"I think my father mentioned something about it" said Emma "No one knew he was a were-wolf until he transformed one full moon"
"yea' good proffesor he was" said Hagrid nodding and turning his view to me.
I looked away, not wanting to face anyone. They were talking about my father...My father had been a proffesor here at Hogwarts for 1 year. Everyone mentioned he was a good proffesor, until one night he transformed into a were-wolf. he almost hurt Jame's father, Harry Potter...
"what was his name?" asked Fred "Something with R"
"Regulus?" asked Emma
"re...rel...rep" they keep trying to find options, trying to guess my father's name
"Remus J. Lupin" said Hagrid almost glaring at the three of them. I turned my view to him with wide eyes. He had just given them the answer!
"Remus Lupin?" the three of them asked
"Lupin like..." James couldnt finish his sentence but everyone seemed to realize the same thing.
The three of them turned to me, their mouths forming an 'o' and then their eyes grew wide open
"OMG Teddy!" exclaimed Emma "we...he...your father"
"yes...my father was a were-wolf" I whispered nodding
"Blimey Ted!" exclaimed Fred "why didnt you told us to stop? we wouldnt have said all those things!"
"no...you said what you think, I'm completely fine with it"
"but...Ted..." James started "what we said its just what we think"
"yeah! we havent studied were-wolves yet" added Emma "we know nothing about them!"
"you got everything right" I said tuning my view away "Were-wolves are killers, they hurt people and turn them into a beast...Were-wolves are m-monsters, dark c-creatures, they shouldnt be living between humans" I said, my voice breaking a little
"Teddy...no" started Emma
"thats what you think...and that is completely fine. I know its truth myself"
I sighed and turned my view to Hagrid. He was looking at me, telling me he was sorry for saying my father's name. I shook my head, telling him I didnt care.
"Hagrid...I cant stay" I said "I'll come back tomorrow and finish what I had to do"
"alrigh' boy...go and res'" he said nodding
"I will...see you around guys"
and with that I left, feeling as my heart ache.
They hated were-wolves...they were scared of them. I couldnt continue being their friend...I just couldnt if I was everything they hated. So I locked myself away from them...living lonely was better. Were-wolves shouldnt live between humans...and that's what I did. I only saw them at classes but then at breaks and at weekends I would lock myself in my room or go to the library to read a book...whatever to stay away from them and keep them safe from what they feared...it was better that way.
