The noise and laughter blurred as you began to nod off, head on Johnny’s shoulder.

“Hey,” your boyfriend says, gently shaking you awake. “You got to stay up till midnight.”

“Whyyy?” You whine.

“Because someone wants a New Year’s kiss from you.” He rolls his eyes.

“Fine.” You say. “Now how much longer do I have to stay awake?”

He glances at the clock. “Five minutes.”

“That’s so long.”

“Not really babe.” He laughs.

You just sit in silence for a couple minutes, taking in the rest of the party as Johnny played with your hair on the couch.

“One minute left!” Two-Bit yells.

Johnny gently shakes you again. “C’mon babe, sit up.”

You slowly get up. “What could be so important?”

“My kiss.” He smirks.

“10, 9, 8…” People start counting down.

“And I have something to tell you.”

“4,3,2,1-“

He leans in, for a long, sweet kiss.

He pulls away.

“Y/N, I have known you for two years. You are my best friend. I have no idea what I would do without you. So, since I don’t know what I’d do without you…”

He slides off the couch, and gets down on one knee.

You gasp, not expecting this. Your hand goes up, covering your mouth from surprise.

“Y/N, would you do the honor of starting off this year being my fiancé, and then getting married?”

You sniffle. “That was a weird way to word it.”

He blushes. “I’m a little flustered.” He says, opening the little black box to reveal a ring with a single diamond in it. “So…”

“Yes.” You nod, fighting back tears. “Yes.”
