Braxton noticed this.
"Cass, you okay?" He asked worriedly.
Cassie blinked owlishly.
"....Yeah. Just surprised, that's all." She replied. The Powerpunk Girls were the sworn enemies of her & her cousins' parents. How could she never have guessed? Braxton noticed her nervousness.
"My brothers and I, well let's just say the product of a one night stand. Our mothers' superpower DNA won over any normal DNA. Our fathers don't really have anything to do with us, & our mothers are just mean." Braxton said to Cassie, hating that he was being so weak in front of her. He was supposed to be the strong one, dammit! Yet here he was, telling his longtime crush-& now girlfriend-his life story. He felt terrible. Not only for spilling his guts to her but for probably freaking her out. Freaking her out meant the possibility of losing her. Braxton's heart nearly stopped at the thought of that. Tears came to his eyes but he blinked them away. No way was he going to lose her.
Cassie stared at him a minute, letting this all sink in, as Braxton hung his head, his dyed-black shoulder length hair hanging down.
"Braxton." She said slowly, tentatively. His head snapped up & he looked at her. Cassie stared into his eyes.
So beautiful, so..perfect, Cassie thought.
"Yes..Cassie?" He replied, voice cracking. This was it. She was going to leave him. Already.
Braxton was surprised when Cassie pulled him into a hug. She was a good 3 inches shorter than him, but that didn't matter. He wrapped his arms around her, as Cassie stood on her tiptoes. Braxton buried his face in her long orange hair, taking in her cherry scent, holding her. He had to be sure someone so beautiful to him was really there, & was really staying there. Cassie tightened her grip. A normal human would have been crushed because of how strong she really was.
"I hate that for you Brax. I really do. But you've got me, & I'm not leaving you any time soon." Cassie finished, buring her face in his chest, loving how he held her & how protected she felt. She knew she could protect herself, but Braxton only intensified the feeling of being protected for her. More so than anyone else.
"Cassie. Thank you so much. You are truly an amazing person," he said to her.
"You are, too. It just takes the right person to see it," Cassie said, "& I'm glad that person is me."
Braxton smiled at her, before finally lifting her off her feet & kissing her again. Cassie went limp in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck & letting her legs hang above the ground. She kissed him back, loving the way his lips felt against hers. Her heart was beating rapidly, but her soul felt the kiss deeper than that. She felt as though the whole world had stopped & that time itself had stopped. In her mind's eye all that was left was her & Braxton. He was all she could sense, feel, & hold. She never felt so needed, so important, so..loved. Finally, she pulled away, blushing intensly, & feeling like she would float away if Braxton wasn't holding onto her.
"I've always loved your eyes. They remind me of shiny little rubies." Braxton said to her.
Cassie was surprised for a minute at the random statement, then, smiling, burst into laughter.
"What?" Braxton asked, blushing.
"That...was...so..funny..!" Cassie said in between giggles.
Braxton gave her a weird look, which made Cassie laugh harder.
"You're so CUTE Braxy!"
Braxton blushed, a little embarrassed. Finally, he looked at Cassie & said, "You are the most insane person I've ever met."
Cassie just smiled & said, "Awesome. Well I'm tired. Wanna talk tomorrow?"
"Of course. See you. Goodnight," Braxton said, as Cassie flew back up to her room & closed the window. Smiling, Braxton flew back to his own home, feeling happy for the first time in a long time.
