I nervously glanced around as we readied our instruments. Manic sat at his drum kit, eyes closed, drumsticks at the ready. Rebecca was grinning, her fiddle set under her chin. David and Annie sat on stools, David holding a guitar and Annie a Mondolin. Crescent stood upfront, his voice his instrument.

I pressed my Tin Whistle to my lips, holding it gently in my crystal claws as to not snap it. The audience stared up at us, impatient for us to begin.
1...
Manic hit his snare drum once... then again... then once more... untill David joined in with his acoustic guitar, and Annie with the Mandolin. Rebecca blended in too; her bow gliding over the four strings of her fiddle.
I waited untill I was supposed to join, and all of us were playing. I let my fingers cover the holes in the whistle in a somewhat unaware state; I knew the way through this song.
I heard Crescent take a deep breath, filling his lungs, and he started to sing.
"I found god,
On the Corner of First and Amistad,
Where the West,
Was all but won,
All alone,
Smokin' his last cigarette,
I said, 'Where you been?',
He said, 'Ask anything'."
The first verse finished, and I played on through the slight pause that followed, listening carefully to my fellow musicians.
"Where were you,
When everything was falling apart?
All my days,
Were spent by the telephone,
That never rang,
And all I needed was a call,
That never came,
To the corner of First and Amistad."
Playing on once more, Manic stopped his drumming for a second, then continued at a faster pace as the song got more frantic. We all played a little quicker, more intense. Only slightly, but there.
I stopped playing, to join in with the singing of the next verse, along with David.
"Lost and insecure,
You found me,
You found me,
Lying on the floor,
Surrounded,
Surrounded,
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you?
Where were you?
Just a little late,
You found me,
You found me."
We slowed again, Crescent holding the last note perfectly in a single, unwavering tone. No doubt about it, he could sing.
I resumed my Tin Whistle, and Crescent gulped in more air as we played.
"But in the end,
Everyone ends up alone,
Losing her,
The only one who's ever known,
Who I am,
Who I'm not,
And who I wanna be,
No way to know,
How long she will be next to me."
I looked over at Rebecca as Crescent sung; she had her eyes closed, intent upon the music, a hint of a smile on her otherwise unreadable face.
Again, I stopped my playing to join in the Chorus, David too, but this time with the addition of Annie.
"Lost and insecure,
You found me,
You found me,
Lying on the floor,
Surrounded,
Surrounded,
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you?
Where were you?
Just a little late,
You found me,
You found me."
This done, I once more keyed with my Tin Whistle, blowing carefully into it. Annie stroked her plectrum across the cords in a melodic way, almost hypnotising.
"The Early Morning,
The City Breaks,
And I've been calling,
For years,
And years,
And years,
And years,
And you left me no messages,
You never sent me no letters,
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want."
Manic thrashed his drum kit for the final chorus, Rebecca played furiously, Annie plucked the chords in a super-fast manner, and David stroked the chords slightly faster as the song went up-tempo.
We all joined in on the singing, most still playing, however, with the exception of myself.
"Lost and insecure,
You found me,
You found me,
Lying on the floor,
Where were you?
Where were you?"
"Lost and insecure,

The fast pace changed as quickly as it began; the tune softed, and Manic seased his drumming for the final, soft line.
Rebecca played softly, likewise with Annie and David.
And Crescent abandon the final line, leaving it all to me.
Quietly in comparison to the rest of the song, I sung the final line,
"Why'd you have to wait, to find me?"
In the background, finishing the song, Rebecca sung in the background.
"To find me."
-- The crowd loved it.
