On September 5, 2006, Rosie O'Donnell made her debut as the new co-host, and moderator of the show. With the new changes in place, September 2006 brought in record ratings. A total of 3.1 million viewers watched that month, the highest total viewership the program has ever seen. The talk show also surged 34% in the advertiser-friendly "women aged 18-49" demographic, and sustained its early season success with its best ever November sweeps period. Entertainment Weekly magazine in March 2007 cited The View as doing for daytime TV what the Daily Show has done for nighttime TV in that it offers viewers a show that deals in genuine opinion and not mere fluff.

During season 10, O'Donnell led the daytime women's chatfest as the moderator steering the opening "Hot Topics" portion of the show. Unlike previous seasons, however, politics and taboo subjects were readily explored with the two comics (O'Donnell and Joy Behar) quickly finding humor in the news of the day and often giving strong opinions against President George W. Bush's policies including the war in Iraq which was losing support amongst Americans. As a counterpoint to O'Donnell's more liberal views, conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck would often support the Bush Administration's views and the two would get into an adversarial give-and-take at least until both had made their points.

Always outspoken, O'Donnell sometimes crossed a line with certain audiences when the comedian would talk politics or veer into religious discussions, at one time stating "radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam". Often clips from the show would be recirculated by other media outlets, often surprising The View co-hosts. In reaction, O'Donnell lamented that news outlets were focusing on less important subjects like her comments instead of more important issues.

It's always Rosie O'Donnell versus Elisabeth Hasselbeck when it comes to political discussions – but on The View Wednesday morning, the debate turned personal when O'Donnell called her cohost "cowardly" for not defending O'Donnell's position on the troops in Iraq.

The source of the blowup? A discussion last week in which Hasselbeck and O'Donnell debated the meaning of the word "terrorist." O'Donnell asked, "655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?" On Wednesday, O'Donnell accused Hasselbeck of not defending her when media outlets, including, O'Donnell said, FOX News, claimed...

ABC has been unable to come to a contractual agreement with Rosie O'Donnell. As a result, her hosting duties on "The View" will come to an end mid-June.

"They wanted me three years, I wanted one year, and it just didn't work," said O'Donnell on today's show.

Despite controversy -- or maybe because of it -- O'Donnell was good business for ABC, owned by the Walt Disney Co. Ratings for "The View" during February sweeps were up 15 percent in key women demographics over the same time in 2006.

Those fans don't have to worry -- she will still be on the show in smaller doses.

Again today it was just the four hosts, with Barbara Walters absent. The first topic was how humid it is in NYC. Sherri Shepherd said that NYC is the only place where with the humidity you wake up wet. Whoopi said, “If you are lucky.”

Then Whoopi said that that they received a letter from a spokesperson from the Barack Obama campaign that the allegation that Obama allowed his prayer to be published was completely false. They didn’t discuss it and left it at that.

There is a new McCain ad about how Obama is a celebrity, which features Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Whoopi thinks is it...

I was reading a local news feed in my area and I saw that Joy Behar will be bringing her stand-up routine to Illinois. She will be performing at the Paramount Theater in Aurora, Illinois on September 20th.

I am pretty tempted to get tickets to go see her. I cannot remember ever seeing any of her stand-up routines, although I am sure some of the jokes that she repeats over and over are likely to pop up in the routine. While I think seeing her in person would be fun, I am not sure I can sit through her Salman Rushdie joke again or her tired Monica Lewinsky jokes. I know that she said that she...
