Lovely recap by Megan, with special focus on the defining moments for Tiva in Season 8, just to appreciate how far our ship has come. :)

What a wonderful season for our favorite couple we love to ship. It was good wasn’t it?! When I got this request (anon shout out) I became overwhelmed with all of the “defining” moments Tony and Ziva experienced in the past season. It began in Spider and the Fly and continued right through to Pyramid. Now you may be asking yourself or me What are you talking about? Tony and Ziva both had significant others this season. You would be correct, but there are so many striking moments where we saw them pushing barriers we have never seen them push before and I would even posit that those other relationships is why we got to see that.
Let’s start from the beginning shall we? That first episode sexual tension nearly exploded in our face. You smell like ocean and shea butter? Give me a second to settle myself before we dive into this season. Tony is already off kilter because Ziva wasn’t there; we see this throughout the season. In Ships in the Night when she knows exactly what he needs and it is unspoken between them. Later on when Tony actually vocalizes I need Ziva. They don’t work well without the other and that became apparent this season. Remember - Ziva’s not replaceable. I would even go as far to say that Tony actually does need Ziva like he needs oxygen or water.
Season 8 is scootin’ along just fine when we come to Short Fuse. Tony physically standing so close to Ziva he has to put his arm up to lean and hover over her, Ziva leans back into him and delivers an assurance statement I find certain older men attractive. While depending who you talk to Tony is anywhere from 10-14 years older than Ziva and any way you look at it, Tony is an older man compared to Ziva who is in her twenties. This statement accomplished two things for me: Ziva finds older men attractive and Ziva is looking for maturity. The second theme ran straight through to False Witness. Tony needs to find balance and nothing will happen between the two of them until he does. Having something permanent goes hand in hand with finding a partner that can balance himself while also being a counterpart to another. That is what Ziva wants.
Be careful, handle with care, contents priceless. I really don’t believe Tony could have been more adorable in this scene. I like to see that there’s someone out there that makes you smile. Don’t mind me tearing up while I type this or anything. Royals and Loyals is where we begin to see Tony struggle with this inner turmoil and once again we get that aching feeling that Tony also feels, Did he miss his chance? I think season 7 was a season of healing and returning to the things that made them feel normal, that made them feel happy. I think Tony realizes in the beginning of season 8, that maybe he didn’t take an important step in the past and now someone else gets to be the one that makes her smile. I think Tony’s answer to Ziva’s question If and I do emphasize if you meet my friend, what will you say? Revealed something to Ziva. She knows he cares deeply for her; she understands they have a bond that neither of them has tried to explain to the other. And she gets that Tony is and will always be protective of her, whether or not she understands why or wants to understand why is the question.
Defining moments for Season 8 would be nothing without the episode Dead Air. So much was revealed in that episode and depending on whose analysis you are “eating up” you could feel differently about what did or did not happen five years ago. Most people know what I think so I won’t discuss it again. I think Dead Air was a nice follow up to the previous episode where we see Tony being protective of Ziva and then we get to see Ziva physically protecting her partner. She wasn’t worried about where Gibbs was, she wasn’t worried about other patrons at the park, in that exact instant when she realized the bomb was going to go off, she looked for Tony, and needed to protect him.
Five defining moments I included in my collage involved these looks that were so powerful and paralleled each other throughout the season. The first one I’m talking about was Ziva’s face in Broken Arrow when she had to be there for Tony after his Dad called. She needed to support him. The second look is the eye contact and statement You okay? From Tony in Enemies Foreign. The third occurred in A Man Walks Into a Bar when Ziva is asked to do the therapy first. She looks back at Tony so quickly with confusion and fear, he gives her this look that in so many words says you’ll be fine, I’m here if you need me. The fourth was Tony’s need to follow after Ziva in Swan Song. The fifth and final look we see is Ziva in Pyramid reassuring Tony that she is fine, not Ray, not Gibbs, she looks at him. In any case, they may have not known what they could do for the other, or what they could say, but they had to be there for the other. It was almost a compulsion to check and a reassurance to themselves.
We see a climax in their relationship build from One Last Score to Pyramid. Tony seeking something in EJ that he is not getting anywhere else, Ziva breaking up with Ray because he became another person that lies to her. Talking to one another about their relationships, what is and isn’t working, what will and won’t get them in to trouble. They are finally having conversations with each other about things that matter, conversations about what makes them happy and what is bothering them. I think the pictures speak for themselves and how defining they actually were. The only one I wished I included in retrospect was the shot from One Last Score where we see EJ physically dividing Tony and Ziva.
Do I know what is going to come next in the ever evolving and exciting relationship between these two characters? Absolutely not, but if this last season is anything to go by, I’m willing to bet it’s going to be fantastic and I can’t wait to see more looks and more important conversations and maybe more chats about what they are and what they want to be? Is that asking too much?
