Setting up a photography website is a great way to showcase your work, gain more clients and even make the odd sale! If you are serious about having a career in photography then setting up a website should be at the top of your agenda! But setting up a site when you have no or little experience in the area can be a little difficult. That is why I am here to take you through how you can set up a site today!

Why do you need a photography site?

You may be looking to gain clients, have something to show prospective employers or simple want to keep a public portfolio of your work. Either way having a site to keep your work on is really important! Here’s why….

Gain clients: Potential clients looking for local photographers may just be on the hunt for their next freelancer. If you don't have a site then how can you expect these potential clients to find you on the world wide web?
Portfolio: Having a unique and professional portfolio is the key to landing employment in the creative sector. Not only can you showcase how good you are at taking photos, but you can also show how much you have managed to organise your work too!
Make a sale: If you are thinking about printing some of your photos and selling them then having a website is where you will want to start. Simply showcase your work and their price, along with your contact details!

Choosing a platform…

There are so many different platform options available for your work. The internet is vast and the competition for web platforms and hosting services are even higher! You can save a few bobs on a new laptop or even web hosting with link so this is a definite option worth considering! Here are a couple of platforms worth considering:

Wordpress: The obvious option to go for here is Wordpress. This is one of the most popular web hosting platforms on the internet, and it is really easy to use as well! Definitely consider wordpress!
Wix: this is another wildly popular and super easy to use website builder! You can get this service for free, but I would recommend getting your own domain and web hosting in order to really make the site your own!
Webnode: Yet another place where you can build, curate and maintain your very own website! These are all great platforms to use but it is definitely worth having a little look into them to find the best one for you!

There are loads of link, so you won't be short of information!

Getting the right themes…

Make sure that you pick a theme that really shows off your work. Consider creating a theme of your own, maybe using your photos as a basis. After all, this could be the first impression of you that people get, so make it really count!

Upload your photos!

Start getting those photos up on your site. This is the fun part so make sure that you enjoy it. Be sure to upload them in the correct resolution and consider how you will format the site for better viewing. You can also try categorizing them into specific orders in order to organise them more efficiently!

About you and contact details

Make sure that you include an about you section on your site where you can outline your experience and specialties! This will help people to get to know who you are and what you can do! It is also super important that you make your contact details readily available for prospective clients as well. They can't hire you if they can't contact you! Make this obvious!

Well there it is, my top tips and process for generating a great photography website. Once your site is live it will be a case of marketing it and link. Whether you want to better market yourself, find new clients or just share your work with friends and family, this is a really great way that you can do it!
