This takes place when the cats of ThunderClan find Spottedleaf "dead" in the nursery.
"Has anyone seen Spottedleaf?" asked Firepaw worridly. Sandpaw snorted and turned away ruffling her bloody fur with her tongue. "No, I haven't seen her recently." Bluestar admitted, looking down at the flame colored tom. "I'll go look for her." Firepaw said, and he turned and padded into the nursery. He immediatly saw the bundle of calico fur sprawled across the floor. "Spottedleaf?" he whispered. "Yeah?" she said, looking up at him. "What are you doing in here?" Firepaw asked. "There's been an omen." Spottedleaf whispered. "What omen?" Firepaw asked. Spottedleaf cleared her throat and began,"In the middle of a crisp summer day, Spotted Leaves will dapple the ground, sunlight burning into them as if on Fire. The two will distroy the warrior code, and bond to create a great joy." When Spottedleaf finished, she looked up at Firepaw expectantly. "Well," Firepaw started. "The Spotted Leaves thing would mean you, and the Fire could mean me, but what are we supposed to do that will trample the warrior code?" he asked. "Run away." whispered Spottedleaf. "Run away?!" Firepaw exclaimed, and Spottedleaf whipped her tail in front of his mouth. "Sorry. Me run away with you?" this time there was no shock in Firepaw's voice, just care. "But even if we could run away, you love being a medicine cat! How would you choose?!" "Firepaw, I would give up anything for you." Spottedleaf whispered. "I love you Firepaw." "I love you too Spottedleaf." "Let's go." Spottedleaf whispered. "What, now?!" Firepaw exclaimed. Spottedleaf whipped her tail over his mouth again. "Sorry." Firepaw said. "It's just that I was really looking forward to my warrior cerimony." Firepaw said. "Oh, okay." said Spottedleaf. "We'll go the day of your warrior cerimony." said Spottedleaf. "Okay." replied Firepaw. "But why were you lying on the ground in here?" Firepaw asked. "Because," Spottedleaf started. "It would be easier for one of us to run away than two." "What do you mean, Spottedleaf?" Firepaw asked. "I mean, that if I pretended that Clawface killed me during the battle, then you refuse to let anyone pay vigal to me, and go out and pretend to bury me by yourself. After that, I'll hide somewhere close to camp, then, the day you recieve your warrior name, creep out at twilight and meet me." "Spottedleaf, that's brilliant!" Firepaw said. "Wait, but how will you make it look as if Clawface killed you?" Firepaw asked. "Because I actually did battle Clawface." Spottedleaf whispered. "He gave me this scratch-" Spottedleaf twisted around and showed Firepaw an impressive claw mark on her neck. "- and I managed to get some of his fur in my claws." "Really Spottedleaf, I think you should have been a warrior, you're the smartest cat I know!" "Oh don't say stuff like that!" Spottedleaf chided. "But let's get down to buisness. You have to pretend that I'm dead." Spottedleaf mewed. "Okay." replied Firepaw. With a make-believe moan, Firepaw wailed, "Not Spottedleaf, anyone but Spottedleaf!" With that, Bluestar came racing toward the entrance to the medicine den. Firepaw stepped in front of her and mewed, "Bluestar, I would like to bury her by myself." "But Firepaw, apprentices never-" Firepaw cut her off. "I've heard the elders saying how Thistleclaw buried his sister when he was only an apprentice." Firepaw chided. He saw Bluestar bristle at the name of Thistleclaw. "Well, okay. But be sure to bury her next to the little medicine pond where all of the medicine cats are buried." Bluestar meowed. "But can I just pay my final payments to her?" Bluestar asked, tipping her head to one side as if threatening him to say no. "I'm sorry Bluestar, but I would appreciate it if you didn't. It's quite an ugly sight in there." Firepaw mewed, turning his emerald green gaze onto his leader. 'Go on with it then." Bluestar said, and she padded out the door and lept up onto the Tall Boulder. Firepaw scurried over to Spottedleaf and picked her up from the scruff. He dragged her out the entrance, through the clearing, and out the entrance of the door of the ThunderClan camp. Then, Spottedleaf stood up, shaking bits of dead leaves out of her fur. "Good-bye my precious Firepaw. Meet me at Four Trees." Spottedleaf purred, and she wound herself around Firepaw. Then, she bounded off toward Four Trees, and with one final glance over her pretty calico shoulder, she was gone. Firepaw quietly made his way toward the medicine pond and duf a small Spottedleaf sized hole. Then, he shovved some white branches into the hole along with some of Spottedleaf's fur, then re-burried the branches. Then, Firepaw unsheathed a claw, and wrote in the durt, "Here lies Spottedleaf, Medicine Cat of ThunderClan." Then, he resheathed his claw and raced back to camp. Bluestar was sitting on the Tall Boulder with Tigerclaw sitting next to her. She was saying, " As you all know there is a gathering tonight. Going will be; Whitestorm, Darkstripe, Runningwing, Mousefur, Graypaw, and Firepaw." Firepaw sighed, normally he would have been sigked that he and Graypaw were going to a gathering and Sandpaw and Dustpaw weren't, but he was just too tired today. But, dreadfully, he followed his leader out of camp.
Four days later, when Firepaw woke up, Graypaw was staring down at him. "Guess what?!" Graypaw asked, leaping off of Firepaw. "What?" replied Firepaw, struggling to his feet. "Bluestar's just called a clan meeting and we're becoming warriors!" "Awesome!" Firepaw said, and he bounded out of the apprentices den. That had been his last night staying there. Firepaw bent down and licked his chest fur till it was all smooth. Then, he followed Graypaw under the Tall Boulder. Bluestar was saying, "Graypaw and Firepaw have learned the ways of your nobel wasy and I condem them to you as warriors in their turns." Graypaw and Firepaw looked up at her with wide eyes. "Graypaw, step forward." Graypaw padded forward, shaking slightly. "Graypaw, from now on you will be known as... Graystripe!!" Graystripe padded over to where Whitestorm was sitting. "Firepaw, please step forward." Bluestar said. Firepaw stepped forward, thinking that just later that day he would be with Spottedleaf again. "Firepaw, from this moment forward you will be known as...Fireheart!!!" Bluestar purred joyfully. Fireheart padded over to where Graystripe was sitting and touched noses with him, then sat beside him.
Later that night, once everyone was asleep, Fireheart crept out of the warriors den and out of the camp. He felt his feet fly over the ground as he raced toward the love of his life. And when he saw her, his heart practically burst.
