Jay jerked awake. He had had a quite interesting dream of the Forest Cats, eating mouse with him. They smiled and accepted him, as if he were a real Forest Cat. This made him feel uncomfortable, the thought of straying from his own housefolk to see other cats. It was just... unimaginable.
He had never tried real mouse, just the revolting hard pellets that his housefolk fed him. Even though he could not survive in the forest, it would have been a good choice to catch some real food in there once in a while!
Jay realized that he heard a great crash from outside, and now he heard yowling and snarling of other cats. What would that be, he thought, fighting at this time of night? He decided to look.
Carefuly stepping outside, he saw a glimpse of two bodies in the bushes. He wanted to just go inside, but his instincts told him to go closer to these unknown fighters. Jay felt like he had to break up this fight; that if he didn't the two cats would kill each other! So, lowering into a competitive crouching position, he crept closer to the snarling bush.
Finally, when he was only a tail-length away, Jay leaped into the bush, landing on the stomachs of the two individuals.
"Hey! you mouse-brained fool, we were having a good battle!" One jet black cat complained.
"A good battle? You try to kill an apprentice and you think this is a good battle? You're the mouse-brained fool here!" said the other cat, which was tan with orange stripes.
"What are you talking about? What apprentice? Who are you guys?" Jay began to rapidly ask questions. He very faintly remembered these terms, as if someone had said the exact ones to him. But he could not remember!
"You know, you guys are on my housefolk's property!" Jay protested, backing out of the thorny hedge.
"Wait, we are in twolegplace?" the black cat was suddenly aware of his surroundings. He jumped out of the bush with the striped cat and stared in horror at the twoleg nest that towered before them.
"Brambletail, lets go! we can't be here!" He yelled, swerving and disappearing into the forest. Brambletail sprinted after him, forgetting about the entire fight they had just a second ago. weird, Jay thought. As he turned around to walk back to his bed, He heard another cat leap out of the bush and hiss. "Brambletai! Jayfeather! Where are you?" he angrily yelled.
Jay swerved to find that this cat had stripes and spots; he looked like one of those huge 'tigers' that his housefolk talked about. "You!" he vigorously hurled himself toward Jay like a hungry dog. Instinctively, he quickly counterattacked the move by jumping up and landing on the strange cat's shoulders just as he was about to ram into him. Realizing what Jay had just done, He gripped his claws into the cat's back fur. The cat yowled and threw Jay off his back, hissing defensively. He jumped and tried to hit Jay again, but in midair, Jay bit hard into his neck, pinning him down as they landed. Jay saw that the cat's soft underbelly was unguarded, so he dug his claws into it and raked as hard as he could. The cat wriggled free of the slashes striking his stomach, and he hissed once more.
"Where are Brambletail and Jayfeather?" The cat yowled.
"I don't know what your talking about!" Jay hissed back.
Suddenly, a large gray cat jumped through the bushes. She looked amazed at something, like she had just seen a miracle. "Tigerclaw, get back here!" she said, turning to me. Tigerclaw quickly ran to the she-cat's side.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"I am Jay. I live here." Jay responded.
"You live with twolegs?"
"Yes."
The gray she-cat stared in awe at Jay with her gleaming blue eyes. Jay could tell that she was looking at him; he could feel her soft gaze on him.
"You..." She stuttered. "You are an amazing fighter!"
"you really think so?" Jay looked confused. What had he done to be a great fighter?
"Why?"
"Well, Well you just..." She started stuttering again.
"Your battle movements are perfect!" Tigerclaw finished the sentence.
Jay looked frightened and confused at this. What was he doing? How or when did he get fighting technique? He was a soft kittypet, like any other. What was this?

Chapter Two- Lionblaze stared at Jayfeather. “Do you mean,” “Yes,” Jayfeather cut him off, “The patrol came back when I was in my den. They ran in and I saw Brambleclaw supporting her. She lost her last life because a rattlesnake bit her. I am so stupid! I could’ve saved her if I was still outside! I killed my own mother!” “JAYFEATHER!!!” cried Lionblaze, “You do not say such things. You tried. That’s all that matters.” Dovepaw stood there frozen in her spot, and in a split second, she padded away. “GREAT! Just GREAT!!! Now one of the Three thinks I’m going to kill her!” Jayfeather choked on his own words, “Please excuse me.” He ran off toward the lake. “Jayfeather…” Lionblaze said quietly.
