D-Jumper Ch 2
"Ms. Sumter! Are you going to join us?" I'm jolted back to reality by my English teacher.
"Yes. Sorry Sir." I apologize sheepishly. I hear a few snickers from my classmates. I hated this class so much.
I feel my phone buzz, and discreetly take a look. It was from Rocky, my best friend.
Hey, r u ok? U look out of it.
I look up at her and nod my head.
"Ms. Sumter! Pay attention. I will not tell you again!" Mr. Houseon scolded.
"Sorry," I apologize again. I give Rocky an accusatory look. She smiles in response. I sit and look at Mr. Houseon, not actually listening. My vision started to fog over like when I was little. I sit still and let it take over. Anything would be better than English class. As the fog cleared I found myself in the dandelion field. I hadn't been here since I was nine. It hadn't change at all from what I could tell. I took in the familiar scent and sight. Out of the corner of my eye, I see something red. I turn and look, but its gone. I continue to look but can't find it. I shake it off and continue to reminisce. Once again I catch it. I turn and see a little girl in a red shirt.
"Umm, Hello?" I call.
"Hello! Who are you? How did you get here? Do you live here too?" She rapidly asks questions. I took a step back. I wasn't expecting her to be so friendly.
"Um, I'm Kodi, I don't know, and no, I don't," I answered as fast as she had asked.
"Oh. You must not be very good then,"
" Very good at what?" I ask. This kid was more ADD than I ever was.
"At dimension jumping, duh. You must not be very good if you don't even know what you did," She said condescendingly.
"Who do you think you are? No wonder you're all alone. You're a very rude little girl," I say, slightly offended. She looked hurt. "I'm sorry, I'm just very confused. I've been here a lot before and I've never met anyone. You said you lived here?" I soften my tone. She looks less hurt, but still cautious.
"You can't have been here before. I've lived here my whole life and never met you. Others yes, but not you."
"How old are you? And what's your name? And what do you mean others?" I ask. Holy crap she was rubbing off on me already.
" My name is Rachel and I'm ten. And I mean other dimension jumpers. Like Caleb. He was really nice to me."
"You keep mentioning dimension jumping. What is that?" I ask. I knew my daydreams were different from everyone else, but this one was even weird for me.
Rachel looked at me like I was crazy, which I probably was.
"How old are you?" she asked.
"How is that relevant to this?"
"Just answer my question," she said with attitude. I rolled my eyes in response. Rachel was the essence of me at that age.
"I'm sixteen. Why?"
"That explains a lot. Most don't start till their eighteen. Other don't start till 21. You're a special case." For being only ten, she sure knew a lot more than I seemed to.
"Start what exactly?"
"Jumping. You have the ability to "jump" from dimension to dimension. It's normally a family trait passed on to at least one kid. My older brother was one." I caught a hint of sadness at the mention of her brother, but wait....
"If you've lived here your whole life, did you have a family that lived here with you?" So many things about this hurt my head. I wouldn't mind if Mr. Houston would yell at me to snap me out of this strange dream.
" Not really. There was this one jumper who came more than others and he became like my brother."
"What happened to him?"
"I don't want talk about it." Something was wrong here.
"KODI!" I heard my name shouted from a distance or my own dimension? My vision started to cloud.
"Listen Rachel, chances are I'll be back here. I've never been to any other dimension besides this one, I think. I'll try and find you, but I'm being pulled back to my dimension," and as I said that last bit, I was brought back to English with Rocky staring at me.
"What is with you today? You weren't asleep but it was like you were hypnotized or something." Her look of concern told me I was out longer than normal.
" Just a really short attention span I guess. My meds must not be working," I shrug it off. Meds not working was my usual excuse and Rocky normally believed it.
"You need to get that fixed soon. Come on, let's go get some food in you. Maybe that'll help you."
"Yeah," I agree, knowing food wouldn't solve this.

Water
My only escape
Where for once my arms that are too pale and scrawny bend perfectly
Where I feel perfect
This is where my spirit will stay
When my body turns grey and dies away
Water
Where my legs that are too chubby or fat kick so strong
I feel perfect
This is the place my spirit will stay
When my body turns grey and dies away
Water
Where pain only makes me only go faster
Better
Prettier
Perfectly
Water
Where my face that's not pretty in never seen
Hidden in waves that make me feel free
This is the place my spirit will stay
When my body turns grey and dies away
Water
When I used to stab myself with needles
And let the blood bleed out
Suddenly is the last thing on my mind
And when I do spill blood
It's only on the days my mom says I can't go
To the water
Where my spirit will stay
When my body grows old and dies away
My only escape
Where for once my arms that are too pale and scrawny bend perfectly
Where I feel perfect
This is where my spirit will stay

Suddenly is the last thing on my mind
And when I do spill blood

To the water
Where my spirit will stay
When my body grows old and dies away
I sit and wonder…
Whatever happened to the days?
Watching BSG and Lost with Charles,
Playing Star Wars with him,
And Shortys?
Whatever happened to the days?
Of Josh helping me through the grief of my father’s death.
Whatever happened to the days?
Of chicken and egg salad sandwiches at the SUB and take-out Chinese for dinner?
Whatever happened to the days?
Of GIRLS NIGHT OUT!
Whatever happened to the days?
Of spring at KU?
Whatever happened to the days?
Of KU’s waterfall and walks at midnight…
Whatever happened to the days?
Of all my friends at KU, and what great friends they were.
