My name is Carle and I am one of the few immune humans to walk a war torn living dead infested world. Let me take you back to before it started 4 years prior to the initial outbreak a couple of millionaires bought an entire hill and fortified it. The middle and upper part of the hill was cleared and a 60 ft. steel enforced concrete wall was put up, the bottom of the hill was encircled with a 30 ft. steel encased concrete wall. Some of the surrounding flatland was also cleared and minimum defenses were put up. Obviously these millionaires knew something we didn’t. This fortress - we locals had taken to calling the Bunker of Maple Hill- was able to accommodate 5000 plus humans inside the inner wall and the outer wall held pastures and fields it was obviously built as a long term home. It was finished a week before the outbreak and at that time I had received a shot for what purpose I didn’t know at the time. When the virus hit it hit fast and worked quickly. Four days after the outbreak I was on my own my mother, father, and sister dead at my own hand, I had no choice they were bit and turned. I was cut off from the bunker by steep hill and blown up roads and passes or so I thought. I quickly accustomed to fighting for my life. I found a set katanas, a pistol with 3 full cartridges and a bowie knife they were soon put to good use. A week after I had killed my family I was bit, so I hunkered down in a basement. Several days later to my surprise I had not turned and the bite was mostly healed leaving a bite mark scar on my upper hip. I was running low on supplies so I broke into a nearby farmhouse I filled a back pack with food and water and headed north it was fall somehow I knew they’d freeze. On the way I killed as many as 160 Zims the worst encounter was when I woke up in a tree one morning to find it surrounded by as many as 35 – 40 Zims the moans filled the area – it was odd they didn’t normally travel in so large a pack – I crawled for the farthest branch and jumped receiving a gash on my palm after slamming it on a rock. Zims are stupid they can’t hear anything above their moans and their sight is horrible but they do have a good sense of smell and when the wind picked up they immediately turned towards me having smelt the metallic liquid that was my blood. And then they were running at me I barely had time to pull the katana from its sheath on my back. Then it goes black. When my memory picks up again there are the decapitated bodies of the Zims surrounding me. I wasn’t expecting to come out of the fight but by some miracle I did. About 4 weeks later I was holed up in a house nursing another bite but I’d only been there a day when I had company … human company. Midmorning on the 20 of September 2022 I woke to the sound of engines in the drive way below. A grey Chevy pickup backed up to the door way and four men got out just as a black mustang and a blue corvette pulled in beside it three men got out of the mustang and four from the Corvette. I figured it was a resource party for some camp of survivors but I wasn’t going to stay to find out. I opened the window and slid out onto the porch roof dropping off it behind a group of Zims. I swore and pulled my katana out and started lopping heads off when I finished taking care of the Zims I felt I had company and crouching I spun around it was the ‘resource group’ standing there with guns pointed at me. I recognized about 8 of the 11. I stood and calmly wiped the blade of my katana on the rags of a nearby Zim after sheathing it I started to walk away. I heard a rifle fire and dropped to a crouch deflecting the bullet with the bowie knife I’d pulled from my boot. I stood and turned eyeing the person holding the rifle with a murderous look in my eyes but one of the men finally recognized me and called my name. I knew the guy his name was Kye he’d been a member of a sports team I sometimes helped with. I looked at him said “tell them to lower the weapons or you all die” my voice rough from disuse and calmly approached them my intention wasn’t to harm them so I walked through them then one of the boys I didn’t know tackled me to the ground. Man he regretted that but they still had my arms bound behind my back and my weapons taken from me in no time really it wasn’t fair odds 11 boys and 1 me no matter how deadly I could be. It was getting close to sunset so they decided to fortify a room in the house and stay the night I had by that time cut the ropes binding me and made my move to escape but Kye and his brother Darren stopped that attempt. As Darren dragged me back to the others he ripped my jacket off me and tore the bandage off the bite mark on my shoulder – he seemed to have known I was bit somehow – he shoved me to the floor and cocked his pistol at my head. He was screaming “we have to kill her she’s infected” over and over before I knocked him unconscious with a kick to the head.
