Chapter Seven
As Glory watched, Aden’s lips pulled back in a snarl. Her eyes jerked back up to his eyes. Their honey depths were warm, and looked almost as if they were melted. They seemed to be beckoning her closer. Her eye’s slid back to his lips. As she watched, his canine teeth lengthened slightly and thinned into needle fine points. They just barely made an indent on his full bottom lip. Glory’s heart started pounding in her chest. Every instinct screamed at her. Run. Run. Run. The word echoed around her mind with every beat of her heart. She took one step toward the door, and before she could move any further, Aden was there. His hard hands shoved her shoulders and she snapped backwards, hitting her head on the wall.
“Aden!” Anna cried out.
Aden let out a slow hiss in response. His golden eyes stared down at Glory with an intensity so strong it looked like they were glowing.
“ You wanted to know the truth, Glory. You see what we are now? Monsters. We are killers. That is why you should leave now and never come back.” He paused a moment and leaned closer.
“ While you still have the chance.”
His teeth were shiny, looking perfectly normal except for the two longer ones. Those she focused on a little more carefully. They were less than four inches away from her face. They were very fine and almost pretty. Glory didn’t know how something could be so dangerous but so beautiful at the same time. Vampire. The word created a pit in her stomach.
“ Aden.” Gabriel’s voice was slow and careful.
“Shut up.” Aden hissed again. He lowered his head slowly, coming closer. Glory shrank back the tiniest bit, against the wall.
(Not everything we do causes harm, Glory.) Aden’s voice whispered through her head, touching her mind like a caress.
(You’re telepathic.) Glory thought in shock.
(That’s right. Among many other things.) Aden’s voice in her head sounded amused. His head dipped lower.
( I don’t want to die.) Glory thought slowly.
( I’m not going to kill you, Glory.)
His head dipped even lower. He ran his nose along her jaw. A shudder passed through Glory. Then his lips made contact with her neck. Glory felt as if she had been electrocuted. Aden slowly slid his mouth down the length of her neck, his elongated canine teeth barely making contact with her skin. Glory shivered involuntarily. Aden pulled back so quickly, it made Glory jump. In a flash, his teeth were back to normal. He looked like a ordinary, gorgeous guy.
He nodded once to Gabriel and then walked out of the room.
“ What was that?” Glory gasped to Anna. Anna shook her head and sighed.
“ That was Aden just being Aden. Who knows. He’s trying to convince himself you’re not the one. But you are the one. So he’s not having much luck.”
Gabriel came over and gently guided Glory toward a chair, looking apologetic all the while. Anna was looking at her gravely.
“ Here is the full story, Glory Anderson. You are part of a very important plan. A plan that will save our people.”
