Chapter Eleven
His mouth was still warm on her’s, but something was different. After a moment, Kassie pulled away. Kyan stared at her a moment, his blue eyes sizzling.
“ How could I not remember you?” He almost whispered. Kassie looked away, lifting one shoulder in a shrug.
“ I don’t know. Guess I wasn’t that important to you.” Without a backwards glance, she untangled herself out of his arms and went out the door. She walked quickly to Boss’s office.
“ He’s awake.” She stated. Boss looked up quickly.
“ You don’t too excited.”
“ He doesn’t remember anything.”
“Nothing? At all?” Boss gaped. He cleared his throat and shut his mouth.
“ Uh…I’m sure he’ll come around soon.” Boss tried to reassure her.
Kassie didn’t answer, just moved toward the door.
“ I just thought I’d tell you. He’s gonna need shown around again.”
Boss raised one eyebrow.
“ I thought that was your job.”
Kassie shrugged. “ Well its not now. I’m going for a swim.” She walked out without looking back.
She walked quickly down to the beach, kicked off her flip flops and quickly stripped down to her swim suit. Soon she was in the water. She swam strongly across the lake. Without knowing where she was headed, soon she was exiting the water close to where Kyan had saved her. Kassie walked up the rocks and sat down on a boulder, dangling her feet off the edge. So much had changed in the last few days. First she had come to camp, only wanting to make Bryan like her. Well, she had succeeded in getting him to like her, but she had fell for the guy that was completely wrong for her. And now he couldn’t remember anything. Bryan and the other’s were going to be able to stay at camp, because if they left, the whole camp would be short on boys consolers. So that meant if Kyan did start to remember things, everyone would probably be in danger.
“ Hey, sweet heart.” Bryan’s voice made Kassie jump.
“ Good grief.” Kassie’s breath came out in a whoosh as her heart pounded.
“ Sorry. I didn’t meant to scare you.” Bryan walked slowly forward, looking as if he was trying to keep her from bolting.
“ Yeah, well you could have said something.” Kassie huffed and turned away.
Bryan came a little closer and sat down beside her. Kassie stiffened and scooted away.
“ Kass, listen to me.” Bryan sounded sincere, Kassie had to give him that.
“ Fine. But make it quick.”
Bryan’s hand gently tilted her chin up to look at her. Kassie gritted her teeth and pulled out of his grasp.
“ Kassie, I don’t expect you to like me, but I have to tell you a few things.” His green eyes looked pained.
“ Fine.” Kassie muttered.
“ We did not kill him, Kass. He was still breathing when we left him.”
Kassie glared at him, her blue eyes snapping. “ It doesn’t matter! He was not breathing when we got to him!”
Bryan shook his head and looked down. “ We didn’t do anything to him that would have made him stop breathing. We only wanted to rough him up a bit to make him leave.” He paused. “Kassandra, listen to me. We are not killers. I would not kill anyone, no matter how much I hated them.”
Kassie stared at him. His eyes were calm, and sincere. Truthful.
“ I believe you.” Kassie said slowly. Her gut was telling her that what Bryan was saying was true.
Bryan nodded, and sense of relief feeling the air.
“ But Kass, that also means something else.”
Kassie tilted her head, staring up at him.
“ Someone else was out there. Someone who wanted him dead.”
