Chapter Eleven
Glory brushed a strand of hair out of Lupe’s tan face. She still hadn’t awoken from getting thrown into the wall. Gabriel hadn’t left Lupe’s side since he had entered the room. Glory watched them secretly from lowered eyelashes. She wasn’t positive, but she thought she detected a little spark between them. Gabe kept looking at Lupe’s still form with admiration tinged with worry. He obviously cared for her very much.
“ Will she be ok?” Glory asked, sitting on the bed. She couldn’t stop the guilt from pushing its self into her heart. There was no way she would ever forgive herself if she let Lupe get permanently hurt, just trying to protect her.
“ Of course she will be. She’s a shape shifter. That shouldn’t have even phased her. I think she hit her head just right, and that’s why she’s still out.” Gabriel answered, giving her a small smile.
“ Oh… ok.” Glory answered. Gabe dabbed at Lupe’s forehead with a cool wash cloth.
“ Anna wishes to talk to you.” Gabriel said suddenly.
“ What?” Glory jerked her head up in surprise.
Gabriel grinned at her. “ Telepathic, remember? We can communicate with just our minds.”
“ Oh, right.” Glory smiled and stood up.“ Where is she?”
Gabriel paused a moment. “ Outside.” He looked down, not meeting her eyes, and Glory noticed the secretive look on his face. She narrowed her eyes, but when Gabriel saw her looking, the look disappeared. Glory turned and walked toward the door, looking down at herself. She had put on what Lupe had laid out for her yesterday. A pair of skinny jeans and a blue blouse that made her eyes snap. Skinny jeans weren’t really her thing, but Lupe had claimed it was the only thing that she had in her size. Glory had to admit it did make it look like she had curves.
Glory bounced down the stairs and went outside. She glanced around the porch and her eyes fell on Aden. He sat there, looking magnificent in worn jeans and a tight gray tee-shirt.
Glory felt her breath hitch up, just looking at him.
“ A-Aden.” She stammered, and then wanted to kick herself.
Aden was busy looking her up and down.
“ Glory.” He beckoned her to him with his head.
“ Uh- I’m actually looking for Anna. Gabe said she wanted to talk to me?” Glory mentioned as she sat down next to him on the swing. Aden turned towards her and smiled, resting an arm along the back of the swing, resting gently on Glory’s shoulders.
“ No. That was me.” He grinned, revealing dimples in his cheeks. Glory’s heart stuttered, and then resumed its racing. Had she ever seen him smile before? And his eyes. For once they stayed a warm honey color instead of turning hard amber.
“ You? Why did Gabe tell me it was Anna?” Glory asked, her mind swirling with Aden’s closeness.
“I didn’t think you would agree to meet me. So I asked Gabe to tell you it was Anna.”
Glory stared up at him, disbelief in her eyes.
“ You didn’t think I would agree to meet you? Why not?”
Aden shifted uncomfortably. “ Well, I’m not sure how to explain… But I will tell you this, if you could read my mind right now, you wouldn’t want to be sitting here beside me.” He looked at her apologetically.
Glory frowned at him. “ Why not?”
He leaned closer, his warm breath fanning her face. His golden eyes peered down at her, then shifted to her lips.
“ What I want to do with you…” He trailed off, his head dipping lower.
Glory stared up at him, eyes wide. It was a good thing he couldn’t read her mind, because there were some things she wouldn’t mind doing with him either…
“ Glory, I can read your mind.” Aden chuckled. Glory felt herself flush and she stopped the direction her thoughts were going.
“ Not that I mind, of course.” Aden grinned wickedly, obviously talking about what Glory had just been thinking. “ But I thought it fair, to warn you I can hear you.”
“ Everything?” Glory asked, mortified.
Aden smiled and leaned even closer. There was only a few inches between them now.
“ Yes, it is most fascinating.” Aden whispered, his full lips hovering just about Glory’s. Glory could almost feel them on her own. The waiting was killing her. She just wanted his lips. On hers. Now.
Aden moved closer, still listening to her thoughts. She thought she could feel them, but they weren’t touching yet.
“ Glory.” Joel’s voice made Glory jump back. The ghost feeling of Aden’s lips almost on her’s haunted her.
Aden hissed.
“Joel. What bad timing.” Aden glared at him, his eyes turning hard.
“ I try. I need to talk to Glory. Alone.” Joel leaned against the porch railing, crossing his arms over his chest.
“ No.” Aden snapped.
“ It’s important.” Joel insisted, smirking at Glory’s still blushing face.
Aden tensed beside her. Glory glanced up at him quickly. Aden’s eyes were narrowed, staring at Joel intently. Glory realized he was reading his mind.
“ Never.” Aden hissed and before Glory could move, he was in front of her, crouched in a defensive position, his teeth elongating.
Glory gulped. This wasn’t going to end well.
