She looked around the darkened woods, listening. He was here somewhere. She knew he was. She took a small step forward, careful not to make any noise. She looked around once more before running for more cover. A blur ran towards her. Next she knew, she was tumbling on the ground, his arms around her. They landed heavily, both panting.
“Tommy!”
She let out a laugh and looked up at her love. His white hair was full of twigs and leaves, his body covered in scrapes and dirt. He smiled down at her, pulling a leaf out of her hair.
“I win!”
She stuck her tongue out at him, smiling.
“I'm still faster!”
“I still have more swag!”
“And arrogance.”
She smirked up at him. He placed his hands on either side of her head, his blue eyes intense.
“You'll always have more beauty than anyone else.”
She felt her cheeks heat up and smiled again. She wrapped her arms around his neck.
“And you'll always be the sweetest boy in the world.”
He smiled and leaned down, kissing her. She kissed him back, feeling the adrenaline run through her. He pulled back, looking at her.
“I love you Erin.”
“I love you Tommy.”
He smiled again and stood, pulling her up with him. She pulled twigs and leaves out of her hair and off her clothes. He took her hand and they walked around, heading out of the forest.
“Where to now?” he asked.
“Ice cream. We're in Germany. We're getting ice cream.”
“As you wish.”
He scooped her up, taking off in a fast blur. When he stopped, Erin looked around.
“Tommy, you did not just run us to Italy!”
“Twice the sugar in Italian ice cream than American and only half the fat!”
“I love you!”
He smiled again, setting her on her feet. Erin bounced on her toes, looking around. Italy was amazing in many ways. The architect was old yet beautiful, the food was unmatched (in her opinion), and the nation itself had a history. She sighed, feeling calm. Until she spotted it.
“Gelato stand!”
She rushed over, looking at the flavors. Tommy was right behind her.
“So much to choose from! Oh look! Raspberry!”
When they got to the front, they ordered, Erin starting to vibrate in place. She took her ice cream, eating it. She could taste the difference in the frozen treat, vibrating more. Tommy watched her, obviously amused.
“I'll get in trouble for giving you sugar, but this trip was necessary.”
Erin laughed, finishing her ice cream. She saw a butterfly and ran after it. Thus began the adventure.
