80's & 90's UK childrens television Question

I'm trying to find a name for a kids TV program from the 80s, I think it was American. There were 2 floating robots, one good one which was gold and one evil one which was purple.

There was a boy with a dog who was being chased by two (or more?) baddies and the purple robot. The baddies were from another planet and had to wear wrist bands (gold with a gem in) to survive on Earth. Ring any bells?!?!?

Wow! I just clicked here to try and find the same show myself, and yours was the top comment! My memory of it is even more vague than yours! I remember only the gold robot, and have a memory of the evil robot with bad guys in the back of a car (in my memory the evil one was dark grey, although now that you've said purple i'm questioning myself) the only other memory i can add is that im sure the gold flying robot had eyes, wheras the evil one had a sort of black glass visor (making it look like it had sunshades although this could be my memory playing tricks on me :)

I think i am looking for the same thing and from reading your posts i think the same. The good one was definitely gold and now you say it i agree the bad one was purple with a dark visor. They were both the same size and typically floated at chest height. they were round cushion shape with bendy necks with an ET shape head. What the heck was it called? been looking for years.
